Everyone remembers the whole Y2K thing, right? Yea, neither do I. Similar to the Y2K scare, the 2012 thought will become nothing more than a faint memory that one ceases to care about.

i think i should point out here that the earths magnetics poles flip themselves every few thousand years or so anyway.... we're about due for another flip, it will NOT cause the earth to stop spinning, and it certainly wont bring about the end of the world... all that will happen is that all our compasses will point the wrong way

Funny this thread, which i had not seen before, should raise it's head at this time.
Over the last few weeks, Sally and i actually watched a number of doco's on the exact subject.
Maybe the festive season gave us food for thought

Sally believes it to be the end of an era, not the world so to speak.
The fact that the Mayan calander goes no further, i believe is coincidental, rather than a Sign of Doom.

I don't have much to add to this discussin, whowever it has given me (us) a lot more to research as a point of interest.

Thanks to the OP for the informative post and everyone else for their views, which also gives more angles of thought.
