Router and switch block the signal?

Hi all!

This is a total mystery. Signal from cable is fine. Works on its own. However when I direct the cable into a router or switch, I get limited connectivity, which is no connectivity. I tried two switches and a one router with identical results. All of these devices have worked on that spot before without any issues. This problem occurred right out of the blue as far as I can tell and left me completely baffled.

It is mainly a wired issue but the limited status also affects wireless in case of the router. TP link products all three.

Any ideas?

Using CAT5 or better, link everything up the way you normally would/did, then run ipconfig /all from a command prompt and post your results. Check the connection from router to modem. Switch and swap the cables around and let us know what you find.

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
Hey, I understand very little from what you wrote.
- where does this cable come from? Isp modem?
- if there is modem - is it in bridge mode or get the ip itself?
- do you connect the cable to router wan port? Usually a different color rj45 port

Would you please attach cable directly and open command prompt. Run ipconfig -all
Post results here

Give some more detail

- where does this cable come from? Isp modem?
Antenna -- Receiver Device -- MicroTIK Routerboard -- Cisco Switch -- The Last Good Cable

This is to my best understanding. The network is constantly in use, preventing proper mapping.

- if there is modem - is it in bridge mode or get the ip itself?
How would I find out?

- do you connect the cable to router wan port? Usually a different color rj45 port
Tried both with same result.

Using CAT5 or better, link everything up the way you normally would/did, then run ipconfig /all from a command prompt and post your results. Check the connection from router to modem. Switch and swap the cables around and let us know what you find.

Both setups have the same ip so either you seem to have a good connection to the dhcp server (your routerboard ?) or ip wasn't refreshed.

Did you ipconfig -release Then ipconfig -renew ?
Run above commands with switch in between and see if you get the same ip

For future reference if modem is in bridge mode, the modem is transparent and your router outer port gets internet ip.

If you add router in between make sure routerboard cable comes in to the wan port of 2nd router or dhcp server of both will be in conflict

I rebooted every single device in the building. Apparently a completely peripheral router had crashed and it somehow dicked up the entire network... not allowing other routers and switches to connect. With the connection issues stretching back all the way to the first switch connected to the ISP routerboard. So, yeah.

We could theorize further on what exactly happened, but the crisis has been averted.

Thanks for the input, guys!

Disregards previous good news. The issue is back and no number of reboots is helping.

Did that:

You terminated the command before ipconfig for Ethernet port reported. What was the ip after renew?

Can you open MSPaint and draw a very simple diagram of your network please?

Include all devices modem/router/switch/computer - also write the static IP numbers of applicable devices, and any all DHCP servers running on routers.

It should take 10 minutes tops. Thanks!
