I almost never pay for shipping from Amazon (other than Marketplace vendors, which I rarely buy from anyway). I maintain a wish list of items I want but don't need right away and use those to pad an order to get it over the $35 minimum for free shipping.

Yea really shipping charges are never there unless you express deliver them :/
3-5 day ground is always free which is always 3 days UPS or 4 days max. no matter what the weight

Shipping time depends on where you are and which warehouse...excuse me...fulfillment center your order is being shipped from. One thing Amazon has bee frequently doing since they started really pushing Prime is, if a fulfillment center is in Phoenix near where I live (they have three there), they will delay filling the order so it takes as long for me to get it as would have coming from, say, Kentucky (and packages from Kentucky take the scenic route); the actual shipping time is next business day. During busy times, even orders from distant fulfillment centers (how pretentious is that anyway?) often won't get filled for several days.

I had to get after them recently for using shipping that has a common carrier shipping a package to Phoenix or Tempe (where I am), then handing it off to the USPOS USPS for the final delivery, delaying delivery by at least one day. In my case, that is kind of stupid because my delivery address is a UPS Store that gets regularly scheduled delivery and pickups from UPS and FedEx during the day everyday. Amazon agreed and stopped that nonsense.

On the flip side, Newegg usually ships from their L.A. area warehouse. If I use free or el cheapo shipping and order in the morning, I usually get it the next day. However, if I choose the more expensive 3 day shipping, I frequently will get it in three days because they will delay filling the order.

If like me and you buy alot (and I mean ALOT) from Amazon, go with Prime. Its well worth it for the shipping alone.
Especially if you don't like to wait too long for your stuff.


I never have to pay shipping on anything, and its always 2 day delivery via UPS or Fed Ex.
There is no minimum purchase to get the free 2 day either for Prime members,.

And if I cant wait, for a small fee, I can have it over-nighted via UPS or if I need it on a Saturday, Fed Ex. It's something like $3-$5 per item. Which isn't bad for a overnight package.
I wouldn't overnight like 6 or 7 items as it can be pricey though.


I buy pretty much everything from there though, so the saving in shipping throughout the year justify the yearly membership. I guess the free books, music and videos make it worth it too.

I know alot of people get irritated when they hand off to the post office. I suppose Im lucky there. Because when it happens to me, UPS usually drops it off at my local post office early, and my carrier brings it to me that day. So personally I don't mind.
But I probably would if like others, it ends up getting delayed a day because of the switch off.

I almost never am in a big hurry to get my orders so it normally doesn't kill me to wait on the non-Prime free shipping. What does bite my ample asset is when Amazon delays filling an order; it feels like they are retaliating against me because I won't buy into Prime, which is $90/year (and is money I have better use for).

Amazon is still pretty good but they have slipped a bit over the past couple, three years.

Great news. It really makes to no sense to pay 200% of the item price just for the shipping
