I am using windows 7 ultimate in preparation for a MS house party.

I have several gripes:
  1. Just like vista the tool to force the pointer to the default checkbox does not work even in all microsoft applications. Why have the feature setting if it doesnt work? And why bring it along to win 7 and not fix it? DUH
  2. I have set up a dual boot system. I backed up from my outlook files from vista with the backup program on the MS site. BUT, the backup tool does NOT work in win 7. You get a 0x80070021 security error: I find no fixes on the net. AND why is the backup tool not integrated into win 7? DUH 2.
  3. Oh yes and lets make sure to dump great utilities from vista: the "quick start" menu. How DUMB is this ? it at LEAST could have been left in as an option. DUH 3.
  4. I prefer the explorer open tabs at the top of the screen but I think I have found the switch for that.
Non gripes (dare I say the good stuff?..LOL)
  1. Overall the system has been greatly optimized and is perceptibly quicker than vista (on the same computer)
  2. There are features that are more user friendly without having been dumbed down.
  3. It has been stable however after SP1 in vista (where they corrected some of the dumbest features) vista has been quite stable.
  4. I dont use much in the way of non Microsoft legacy programs so I cannot comment on how well it does in this respect.
  5. Like vista (a good feature) setting up WiFi is really easy. The same is for dial up.

You mean "Snap To" in Mouse Properties? I think you should re-read what it does. "Automatically move pointer to the default BUTTON in a dialog box", don't see anything about checkboxes...

The WHOLE taskbar is now quick launch (aka. quick start).

Suggest giving the new taskbar a try out for a week or so before rejecting it and going back to quick launch which is still available if you must have it. But once you get used to how the new taskbar works, you might just like it better. I know I do.

I suggest you (the OP) check out a free tool you can download called "mailbrowserbackup". This provides an easy way to back up just your outlook data files, among other things, and works in 7 and is easier to use than the MS tool. Or for a fancier, better paid alternative with many configuration options (such as compression, password protection, scheduling, etc.,) Acronis True Image Home 2010 allows you to back up anything or everything on your system, including just Outlook, if you want.
