My laptop won't boot after I changed the video configuration settings in the bios. Any time I turn on the laptop it just makes a clicking noise & switches itself back off so I cannot change the settings back.
I have tried to reset the cmos battery but I have been unable to remove the keyboard to get to it.
is there a way I can get my laptop working again?

With your receipt, take laptop to any busines-oriented computer store [for example I've used Altex in AustinTX], let them fix the problem for you. Once, they've fixed your laptop, make changes in video configurations in Windows OS, after making external media backups of your OS partition.

Do a hard power reset by taking the battery out and holding the power button down for 20 secs.

If machine will stay on for a while, this might help, and it resets bios to defaults.

Acer supports "crisis bios flash" from a usb stick. Place dos bios rom file on stick, unplug machine. hold down alt-f11, plug in machine and then turn on, holding power button down for a few seconds.

What did you change in BIOS exactly? Remember as much as you can.

Are you sure you're tapping the BIOS key correctly? If so try holding it down.

Try with battery removed, and with A/C removed only on battery. Hold the power button down 30 seconds with both disconnected before trying each.

Did you find a video or tutorial online to show how to disassemble your model to get to the CMOS battery? A quick search finds several. This needs to be done with surgical precision as the parts are extremely fragile.

I changed the aperture setting to 256mb. I managed to remove the cmos battery & put it back in after a few mins but the laptop still doesnt work

You may need to leave the CMOS battery out overnight to get it to discharge all power to the BIOS.

Did you drain the power by holding the power button after removing battery and A/C

Have you disassembled a laptop before? It is quite a risky operation that can be unforgiving. So be sure you put it back together correctly.

gonna leave the cmos battery out overnight. no I haven't disassembled a laptop before. This is the first & last time I will be attempting it. luckily I have an external keyboard, the built in one is looking slightly disfigured

Those keyboards are normally fairly cheap to replace via Amazon or similar.

Let us know how that works. We can escalate to hardware experts if necessary.

how do I get a crisis disk program?

Take as much hardware off the machine as you can. hard drive, cd drive, external mouse or keyboard, the onboard keyboard if it's seen any water. Use only one stick of ram, then switch to the other stick. Try different ram slots as well. Try it with battery only and with AC only. Open up case and disconnect any daughter boards if possible.

...along with Paul's great advice, remove the battery, and run laptop only from AC power cord during your troubleshooting.
