Solved WLM - Calendar Reminder not working

Until recently the reminder system for my calendar has been working perfectly where I fill in the event details and set the reminder to the necessary alert time.

However, I am not receiving any email reminders now and I'm not sure what's gone wrong.

It all came to light when I forgot my dental appointment the other day.

Hello and welcome Rachel nice to see some systems specs filled in for a change ;) and sorry for the wait.

Now two simple things you could try are these

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html< if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

if no go then give these a run the ADW leave to very last

http://www.superantispyware.com/

https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/sem/5/?gclid=CJTmq6iGpscCFYqCvQodbfMN1A(free version and untick the trial option when it comes up

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

ADW download from bleeping computerdelete any rubbish found with the malware scans

(Anyone running Kasperskyinternet security will find it rants about ADW - ignore it or disable Kasperskywhile running ADW)

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I've run a scan and there was a problem and it said it couldn't repair it (see .jpg file). I'm also attaching the .txt file and perhaps you can make something of this for me because my computer knowledge is very very limited.
Thank you.

Rachael could you run the chkdsk with the /f switch please .
Now the sfc I cannot make much out of except it does mention Processorarchitecture and a few searches have mentioned repairing files and hardware based stuff.

Now the chkdsk will check the drive for bad sectors etc and attempt to repair any errors on it rather than the sfc just checking the OS filing system.

The option after that is run those anti malware scanners too.

Here's a short version of my method.
My mail in WLM is [email protected], my Microsoft Live ID is [email protected], it has a different password from my gmail account.
I use WLM to read & send mail. I log in to MS Calendar with my MS Live ID to set reminders so as to get them as reminders by mail. This was only done recently. I previously used Hotmail as my MS Live ID and added my contacts during he process.

Thank you both again for continuing with this.
ICIT2LOL: I have run the chkdsk with the /f switch successfully which showed no problems. I then ran the two scans from your links and attach the results. There was nothing on malware bytes but the other one showed 910 instances of maybe slight problems. Could you advise whether if I delete the problems that have been highlighted, would it have any affect on the running of the computer or is it the standard thing to do. I have never used this software before so I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
Roderunner: I'm signed in to the WLM account using the password allocated to it. I signed out then signed in again (to see if that made any difference) and made a test appointment with a reminder. It made no difference - it still didn't work!

Hi George
Your first screenshot is exactly how we use the new event/reminder method (and I've also used the method as in your second screenshot).
When we try to set up a new email reminder we get the error message 'We can't find that page' as in our attachment Capture4. The following address is what we get in the addressbar.
https://bay02.calendar.live.com/cal...ath=/calendar/WLAlertsSettingsRedirector.aspx
whereas it should be https://bay02.calendar.live.com/calendar/calendar.aspx (without the error 404) so do you think this is where the problem lies.
When we click on 'Go to Calendar' in the error message, the calendar actually opens up correctly and I can add new events, but still with no email reminders sent.

ICIT2LOL: OK - I've deleted all the unwanted items from the scan. Just to clarify, I don't use gmail. I use hotmail for the calendar reminders. I also have Orange.fr and BTcom email addresses that I have always used on Windows Live Mail.
As I've said before, the system used to work perfectly well. It's only the last 3-4 weeks that it's not been sending reminders.

Another question: Could it be my Bullguard security that I've got on the PC that has caused this problem.

Roderunner: I tried the link. Strangely enough I was already signed in. I created a test appointment with a reminder and I received an email alert. So that worked OK but obviously it doesn't show on my WLM as an event.

It would be nice to get everything back as it was - on one page rather than having to go from one programme to another.

So instead of opening Windows Live Mail do I open OneDrive instead. If so do I uninstall Windows Live Essentials and transfer everything to OneDrive/Outlook.com etc.

I've becoming more confused each day ..........

Hi George

I really appreciate all the time and effort you are putting into this explaining 'how to' but I'm really no further forward to finding a simple solution to suit my needs.

I've spent hours and hours going through forum after forum with people having the same problem as me. Weeks, months and years after this problem started, it seems that no-one can come up with a definitive answer and the problem cannot be fixed.

It only adds to other small problems within Microsoft that also cannot be fixed. As an example, try transferring files with long names to another drive. It cannot be done and there is no Microsoft solution after years and years of the problem - they just don't seem to want to address the problem. So I've resorted to getting a software programme to do it for me. With things like this, is it because Windows 10 has come out which means Windows 7 is slowly becoming obsolete. Even Microsoft themselves do not come up with any answer in their own forums.

I'm not having a go at you - in fact this is one of the forums that do make a real effort to help people along but I'm wondering if, from the screenshot in my message #3 that said 'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files', that is where the problem lies. I replaced my hard drive with an SSD only a couple of months ago. I did a clean install of Windows then and everything has been working fine until this problem occurred.

Anyway, thank you very much again for your input.

Hiyya Racheal problem still going and I am suggesting a reinstall of WLM might put it right it sounds a rather drastic solution and I know having all those emails download again is a pain but it is an option I would consider myself.
It just means going through all that wretched setting up of accounts but like I said I have done it in sheer frustration a few times before now.

Hi Rachel, sorry for the delay, couldn't find my post on Microsoft Answers.

Are you using this version of WLM.

Does your email show by default in the red box & it should be the one you sign in to WLM with.

Good evening George
The version I have of WLM is exactly the same as yours - see attachment (I had to Google how to find the version - things are never straight forward) and yes, the email shows the same address that I sign in with.
I've got to the stage where I think I'll call it a day with this. I might start to look for a standalone desktop calendar software programme, just to get me by, such as Rainlender. The reason I say that is that I think it's only a matter of time before we all have to update to Windows 10. I'm not looking forward to that at all. I've been very happy with Windows 7 until now....... I'm not very good with change and I believe if something is there, then it should work, and now this doesn't.
You've been very patient with me for which I am really grateful. I appreciate everything you've done to try to sort me out but I think we've come to the end of the line with this one.
Anyway, thanks again.
Regards Rachel
