Windows Media Center has taken control of my op system, nothing works!

I have an HP 2011 desktop. Yesterday morning, after talking to a guy on Facebook private messages, I signed out and left the room to eat lunch. Came back 30 minutes later, Windows media Center is running all systems on my PC. System restore says 'unable to start'... restart in "safe" mode did nothing. WMC pops up on almost everything I hit, but after about two hours I was able to get in system defaults. Found one file that the PC said should not be opening with WMC, and changed it. Went to Program Uninstall, tried to remove WMC, it just sits there and does nothing. Still no difference.

Any suggestions?

so what you mean is that if you try to open anything it will open WMC and not what you wanted.
in that case..
try going into startup repair and performing a system restore from the repair environment

This is a common issue with the settings of Media Center
Go to Settings in Media Center

Uncheck keep Windows Media Center On Top
Uncheck Start Windows Media Center when Windows Starts
You MUST SAVE before exiting.

W's media center

Windows media center launches no matter what process I try. Photoshop, internet, games....everything. I can't start computer in safe mode, F2, F8, F11, F12 at startup, windows opens normally. Programs, "turn w features on and off" launches WMC. Default programs launches WMC. Try opening Microsoft security essentials launches WMC.
I waiting for a new W7 disc, at which time I'll attempt to wipe the hard drive, (re-format). If that fails, the computer is little more than trash. Microsoft has been no help with this issue.

I think you must have got some malware or something. WMC takes over the system as the front end instead of the desktop but you can still use everything else.
Download this on another machine and boot from the CD you make

I wanted to say thanks to all that offered advice. Oddly I found the cure in Microsoft community, where someone had my same problem. The windows 7 fix failed, however on a lark I tried the "fix it" button under windows Vista and VOILA!, the computer restarted with a return to normal, ALL programs are working. Soon I'm going to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10, so as to hopefully avoid this bug in the future. Still clueless as to how WMC took over......Again, THANK YOU ALL!!!
