Windows 7 SP1 OEM ISO - Microsoft Site

Hi there,

I have an original Windows 7 OEM Disc (Pre Service Pack 1).

I wanted a new disc to include SP1, so went to the this Microsoft Site to download the SP1 64 Bit ISO file:

I downloaded it, it downloaded as a .rar file so I extracted it thinking it would just be a single ISO file as the name suggested, but it was a collection of 9 files (Exactly same files as on my Original OEM Disc as I open that to view files).

I inserted a blank DVD, and used the Built in Burn to burn the 9 Files, see attached image:


When I put the disc back into the drive and reboot the computer & set the boot drive to my DVD I don't get the usual on screen prompt like with the original disc "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD etc", and I can't boot off it.

I have been having problems with the DVD drives (I have 2 of them) and they are about 6 years old, but my Original Win 7 Disc brings up the normal prompts, I'm just wondering what's missing off the new Disc as it's straight from Microsoft Website.

Would appreciate some help.

It should not download as a rar file.

Even if you use windows it should show up like this, but the disc should be silver, if not you`ll need a program, personally I use PowerIso, but you can use a program like Imgage Burn or Free Iso Burner,, the file has to open by default to one of those programs, right click the file and set the default program to open it.

It downloaded as an RAR because WinRAR has the ISO association, you can undo that in options> settings> integration tab. Uncheck ISO in the associate WinRAR with.

Yep, you don`t want WinRar having anything to do with iso files, only rar files.

In fact I don`t even use WinRar, I use WinZip

Yea I checked the ISO box when I installed winrar. Will uncheck and try again.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I should just be able to down the ISO, burn to disc and it should work just like my original windows disc except this one has service pack 1 included, have I got that right

Yes, that is correct, but no one here has ever reported on a a download from that site.

Burn it at no faster then x4 speed.

The proper size for Windows 7 pro x64 SP1 should be what I pictured above.

Ok I burned at 16x speed. Will re-download and burn at 4x speed.

You're the first one I'm personally aware of. It's been a constant failure rate for just about everyone we've pointed to it.

Ok coz I have an OEM key and I entered it, and the download was called something similar to windows 7 pro sp1 64 bit coem.

You are the first person I've heard of to actually get a download.

It usually comes back with some error or product key not supported, even language (English) not supported.

You are the 1st person to use an oem key and it would let you download it.

It always says to contact your PC manufacturer to aquire install software, that site is useless. In my opininon, if you own a Retail Key, you better have your retail disc, that`s gold

Well I must be very lucky then.

I want to download it as it incorporates Sp1 so I'll try downloading again tonight with winrar uninstalled and see how I go.

Will use imgburn to burn ISO at 4x speed.

Update: Just started to re-download the iso which is working after entering my product key and selecting language and click 64 bit download and its downloading "windows 7 pro sp1 64 bit coem" ISO file 3.1gb.

Looks like the OP hasn't got 'show file extensions for known file types' enabled (setup would show as setup.exe). If he had, that so-called rar file would be shown having an iso extension ie windows.iso not windows.rar . It's only showing as a rar file because of the association. No need to download again - it will be the same file, an iso.

I have Max and 48x846ke

I'm still not able to find a clean download for imgburn.
