ATI & Windows 7

Is everybody with ATI graphics and Windows 7 having trouble, or does it just seem that way? I'm waiting on the 22nd, have a new motherboard with onboard ATI video. I want to add a card but not sure which way to go. Any advice would be appreciated. Not a gamer at all but do like good graphics and want to use it for blue ray playback.

I rarely have any problems with the ATI Catalyst or drivers on either the 32bit or 64bit 7 Release Candidates here. When many were having problems with the 9.4 that went right on here without seeing any.

The first 7.9 seen on the software disk that came with the card itself however was buggy where even the patch for it was ???! That's when I was a little concerned and had to wait for the 7.10 and then better yet 7.11 but was on Vista at the time.

It just seems that way. Especially amongst those with onboard / mobility / older cards. Some of the issues are solely down to user error as well.

Honestly, ATI drivers do have their quirks, but are far from broken.

Ever since AMD bought out ATI you'll notice you are now also seeing better support for older cards a bit longer then previously seen. Hopefully AMD will continue to remain in the cpu market as well since they were having some setbacks.

Yes. I have the 3850 AGP and it handles BluRay and x264 very well. DX 10 HAWX on highest settings at 1680 x 1050 smooth.

HD4830 used as the main card and the onboard HD3200 used for HTPC duties (and used at the same time, running two monitors and a LCD TV), and both work perfectly. Never really had any problems with ATI drivers.

That's gotta be a cool motherboard with an HD 3200 onboard. That has to be one of the best onboard graphics I heard of, heh.

I have three systems running Windows 7 RTM with ATI cards...a 4850, 4350, and a 3450. I haven't had any issues at all. One is an HTPC, and one is a gaming system, if that matters to your questions.

HD 2600, not a problem, but the card sucks. Better than my x3100 before though

I have one here but will likely be moving up a bit on the next build for 3D work there! So far I've been having good results just the same.

When a friend just finished replacing a card that went with a new DX11 model he reports the system seems to be more responsive once everything was set.

I bought a HD 4350 today. I hope it does a good job. Haven't installed it yet. The disk that came with it has 9.3 so I downloaded what their web site said was the newest, 9.7

The 9.9 is the latest just seen out in the last few weeks. I have that running on the older model here and should be good for you there.
