How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

Same here Thrash. I've now removed Java, Flash, QuickTime and Silverlight.

The flash player that's built into Chrome I have set to run on demand.

Removing all of these hasn't had any negative impact on my daily browsing experience. I only had one program which still used java which I've now completely removed. Will find a Java free alternative when I get around to it.

Surprised to hear Netflix still uses Silverlight and even more surprised that some content on the Microsoft site still uses Silverlight. Flogging a dead horse there!

Ok no matter what I select I get the message about windows 10. I stop it during the setup files state. I have rebooted and chosen only one optional file which is a NVIDEA hardware driver. I still comes up with the same message.

Who is your post aimed at? Who is trying to scare people?
Personally I couldn't give a toss about Windows 10 privacy. If Microsoft really wants to spy on someone's pc, they'd find a way.
But some people (me included) just don't want 10 on their pc. Nothing in the OS interests me or makes me want to upgrade. It's annoying when they're trying to nag people into upgrading though.
I have no interest in Cortana/Planners/Voice Searches. I don't even have Google Now Activated on my Android phone.
I have no interest in mobile style apps on a pc either so Windows 10 is pointless for me. This thread isn't just about privacy concerns.

I searched google for each of the numbers separately. It seems they were valid at one time but you can't find them on the Microsoft kb site. It seems they may have been pulled if you go by some of the articles listed on google that just my interpretation though.

For anyone whose machine wasn't compatible in July, like me, I have now received the update icon - I believe some new version or updated Windows 10 is available since 6 October. On 7 October the icon appeared on my task bar - hey so I'm now eligible. I assume the updated Windows 10 that has just rolled out to people, is the version for older laptops. I did try it - but went back to Windows 7 lol. After I had upgraded, and then rolled back to Windows 7, I had to do windows updates again and the icon came back again. I hid the update and it has gone again. I have now made dvd's of both 64 bit and 32 bit Windows 10 just in case I decide to upgrade any of our machines. The ISO download is available free from Microsoft for a clean install. As I understand it - if you upgrade via the Icon, you have 30 days to go back to Windows 7. But then you can do a clean install at any time of Windows 10 because you don't need a product code - Microsoft registered something from your Motherboard after the online upgrade the first time - so you can activate automatically after doing a clean install.

I just like having the dvd's handy - but prefer Windows 7 lol.

There's really no real reason to upgrade if you intend to use a M$ account
Anyone willing to do that can simply join the insiders program and use 10 for free and keep 7 as is

Hi,
Dual boot is one way,
Using VMware is another safer way
Most will be able to use the 32 bit in VMware but if the laptop does not support virtualization you can't use a 64 bit win-10
I'll start with the safest way this works for any os,
VMware Player - Install Windows 8
Then all you need is to join the insiders program make sure you already have a outlook.com or Hotmail email address before hand,
Then sign in and download the iso for win-10 32 bit.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me. Im trying to install my windows updates, but am unable to because I get stuck with Windows 10 trying to install and it gets stuck at "getting setup files". Using win 7 64bit; Ive made sure kb:3035583 and kb:2952664 are uninstalled and the updates hidden; kb:971033 is installed; Ive disabled the windows 10 notification tray. But I have about 30 important updates I cannot install because it always goes directly to trying to install windows 10 (which needless to say I do not want). I have not read every post in this thread but I will continue to read it. In the meantime could someone point me in the right direction. I just want to install important updates, and we all know Microsoft has made it really difficult for those of us not wanting windows 10 at the moment. Thanks for any support

In Windows Update window click to go into details of which updates will be installed and unselect Windows 10, but you will have to unselect each time you update. So for a better solution, you can uninstall Windows 10 updates (see the list of updates mentioned in this thread) or add the following 2 keys to the registry (values are case sensitive):
