I seem to be having a lot of trouble getting Windows 7 installed on my PC...

Let me start by posting the specs of my system.
Q6600 CPU
Asus P5E motherboard
2x Seagate 7200.11 500GB HDDs
2GB Crucial Ballistix RAM
Nvidia 8500gt =[

I first had Fedora 11, but decided to switch to Windows 7.

So I put the DVD in, and begun the installation.
Everything seemed fine until the last stage of the installation,"completing installation". I just got a BSOD, but it disappeared before I got a chance to read it.
I tried to install again, but had the same problem at the same place.
This attempt was done with my hard drives in RAID 0...

To try to figure what was causing the problem, I put a third hard drive in, a 500GB Western Digital (I believe...) Hard drive.
I tried the installation again, but this time on the new hard drive and it BSOD'd at the same spot.

At this point, I knew it was either the DVD or my hardware causing this.

I tried installing Windows 7 on another computer I have.
This computer has:
AMD 3200 CPU
ASRock AMN2NF3-VSTA
Some 250GB Western Digital HDD
ATI 1650

It installed perfectly, meaning windows was having some kind of problem with my hardware on the other computer.

So I decided to bring my hard drives down to the other PC, try to install it there, and then bring them back to the other PC, but when it got to the point where you selected which HDD to install windows on, it didn't let me choose them.

I thought maybe there was some kind of problem with RAID, so I un-RAIDed them and then tried.
At this point, the Windows installer didn't even see them, however, the BIOS does detect them.
This happens in both my computers.

When I booted into Windows XP to see if the hard drives were there, I did see them. However, when I try to access them, it says they are not formatted. And when I try to format them, it says that the drive cannot be formatted...

Suggestions?

If your not installing on the raid array then disconnect them and any other unnecessary hardware, Try with the bare minimum, 1 stick of ram, 1 hard drive, 1 graphic card and KB & mouse. You should be successful. Fabe

Well, you have certainly tried many things, but perhaps some questions:

You have a full version of Windows 7?

When you unraided, did you change the bios settings? Any bios updates or reverting to defaults and resetting the values?

Were any of the drives clean or been used by something else. If I had used Linux on a drive, I think I would have wiped it first.

There is a tutorial here about install problems, have you checked that?

Have you tried removing devices or disabling them in the bios, like sound?

This is a total guess, but after a bad install, do you have another computer you could put the drive on to see if any log files might be present explaining the error?

So far, the folks having your type of problem have not posted any resolutions. Maybe they will soon.

Which partition and disk were you trying to install Win7 on?

Are you keeping the Fedora 11, planning on dual booting?

There is a sticky thread with some questions that will help us to understand what we're looking at Questions to use for help with Installation Issues.

Any over clocking CPU, GPU or RAM?

Make sure all non essential devices are removed, only have monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Do you have on board graphics? Take out the graphics card if you can. Use VGA cable if you can.

How much RAM? Some MOBOs have a problem with the amount of RAM and number of cards. Use one card.

Has the BIOS been updated? If not check for update?

Any other cards in the MOBO, TV tuner, Sound card?
Take them out if necessary.

Have only one HD connected.

A couple of people said they solved it by running Disk Check utility. At the Command Prompt, Type chkdsk /r and press Enter.

Let us know if any of these help.

Clear the cmos and set bios to defaults, after that be sure and enable your SATA drives and RAID and other required settings in bios.

Set up your RAID array as before. After that Windows should install for you.

A bit of an update...

I managed to install windows 7 with an ati video card plugged in.

Problem is, I am borrowing this card from another computer, so I have to get the Nvidia 8500gt to work.

with the ATI card, everything works fine, I've restarted and shutdown my computer several times and it always boots up fine.

When I put the Nvidia card in, it installs some driver that comes with windows, and then asks me to restart. When I restart, I get the BSOD.
To get back into windows, I just use a restore point.

Anyways, I decided that maybe the official driver from the nvidia site would work. So I got this driver:
NVIDIA DRIVERS 191.07 WHQL
I do have the 64bit version of windows 7, and according to this, it works with the 8-series video cards...

Anyways, when I try to install it (with the nvidia 8500gt in) it says that no driver was found that is compatible with my hardware.
Does anyone know why this is, and how I should proceed?

If it is retail then you get MS tech support. They are pretty good with all that money.

Is the card still NVIDIA supportable? 64 bit is a can of worms so I would use any support you already paid for if you've got it.

Who is getting problem with windows 7 it is easy & nice

I am using 3 operating system in my computer

1. windows xp service pack 3
2. windows vista Home Basic Edition
3. windows 7 ulimate

My pc is working in good condition

Q?
When I booted into Windows XP to see if the hard drives were there, I did see them. However, when I try to access them, it says they are not formatted. And when I try to format them, it says that the drive cannot be formatted...

A!
You can formate your Hark disk that is not any other Harkware problem
when ur trying to install two operating systems is a single pc
first you need to install Older version ofter that new version
for example you want to install windows vista Home basic Edition, and windows ulitmate 7.
first you need to install windows vista Home Basic Edition
after that install windows 7

when ur installing windws vista there is no Hard disk format options.
just you can create Partitions

so u can't formate when your installing vista os even thought windows will install no problem but your hard disk will corrupt after some time

so fist format with windows xp sp2, or xp sp3 disk how many partitions you want create.

after that format the first partition and install windows which u want install
then install second os in second partition

REMEMBER To Every body
who want to install more then one Operating systems in a PC(I mean multi boot operating system)
first install Older version of windows
ofter that install new version of windows

For any more help I ready to help every body

This is my gmail id if any body want help come to the online
There is lot help need here but i can't that much so come to that online i we can discuss with google talk
to down lload this http://www.google.com/talk/thankyou.html

Microsoft's response: buy a new video card or use a different one until new drivers are available.

Search deeper for drivers via Google and Nvidia website. Call or email Nvidia or join their forum.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and install from there?

The help section has instructions on removing driver packages from the driver store.
