I got mine too! PC World must be trying to beat the postal strike. Just awaiting my memory upgrade so I can install 64-bit :-)

looking at the price you paid, it must be an Upgrade Disk.
Please post a new tread when you use it and tell us all how it works.

I have mine on order from Amazon...£44 for Home Premium full version as part of the pre order deal. I actually placed the order on 15th July and I just checked and it says it will be dispatched on 21st October :)
I also read somewhere that a lot of suppliers are shipping out early because of the UK postal strikes...I hope Amazon does the same :)

I have completed an install on my second partition, I can confirm it is not an upgrade it is a FULL install. Originally it was to come without IE on it but this changed sometime after I had pre ordered.

Well, not sure what you are saying but just to be clear on the terminology, one can do either a clean install from upgrade media or one can do an upgrade install from a qualifying prior OS that is supported for upgrade purposes. So just because you were able to do a clean install does not mean your disk is not an upgrade version.

All pre orders at that price we full copies, there were no upgrades available at the time it went to pre order.
Is there a reason you dont believe the poster knows what he is doing?

Yes Fliplip is right all the pre orders were the full version as no upgrades were available at that time, they were announced later. If my memory is correct there was an issue that Europe would even get the upgrade versions at all due to EU restrictions but Microsoft worked it out in the end. Also my original order was for the version without IE8 but again Microsoft worked it out with the EU and now my order has been changed to the full one with IE8 included.

:zip:

IT WAS A FULL VERSION. That is what I am saying, it was purchased on pre order a very long time ago from PC World for £45. It was to come without IE, after changes with the EU decision it was realised including IE.

I don't understand the scepticism; all pre-order copies are shipped as FULL Version and contain both 32bit and 64 bit versions.

I think this is only in UK.
USA and Canada pre order promo was $49.05 for home premium upgrade media.
Nice if we get sent full.

Seeing as the OP posted it cost him £45 i think that makes it pretty clear where its coming from.

OK, what is the difference between the "full" version and an "upgrade" version?

I thought both contain the complete OS, but the "full" version does not require a previous version of XP or Vista in order to install.

I don't understand the hostility. I did not intend to offend anyone.

But anyway, have fun with your full version. I'm sure you will enjoy it a lot.

In the U.S. all pre-orders at the special half-price are upgrade versions and not full version. This was the information from Microsoft's web site regarding pre-orders.
