Windows not genuine, internet not working, DNSAPI.dll is missing

Hello I'm new here, I have what I (and apparently the service center rep on the phone) think is a unique problem/conundrum. I am posting from my laptop because there is no way for me to access the Internet on the desktop.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and for the past month the desktop has had no access to the Internet. Originally, when it would boot up it would show an error that says something like DNSAPI.dll is missing. I believe this is somehow connected to the fact that I can no longer use the Internet on any browser or software. The problem got worse once my girlfriend tried to find solutions herself and the computer started saying Windows is not genuine.

My gut reaction is to backup and completely wipe the computer, but the problem is she has some games on her computer that she doesn't have cdkeys for. She can not re-install these games unless she has the cdkeys. In summary, I'm at a complete loss.

Hello and welcome Cheezus mate my first thoughts are if this is a custom made machine did you make it if not who did because the maker would have had to have an OEM media to install Windows.

Now have a look at this and see if you have done something similar recently re that error message Dnsapi.dll not found - Am I infected? What do I do?

Re the laptop CD keys you can have a look at this and I know Magic Jelly Bean (Option two) is good at finding Microsoft keys at least and if the ones she wants are Microsoft they will be listed

here's a vb script to find windows product key

If you click on the popup and then press CRTL + C it will copy product key to clipboard, you can then paste it into notepad

If you have Win7x64 DVD you could do repair install, saves all your installed programs, files, folders, music, pictures, etc., just replaces windows

If that is what you wish to do, I have detailed instructions. Piece of cake really, I do them all the time.

This error type is notoriously difficult to fix

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC and CheckSUR, following the Windows Update Posting Instructions
