I do not manually check for updates they come or not I'm not worried about that
And yes they do show up by themselves.

I am slowly going through the VM of 7 and 8 and removing the updates. I have no idea what else to do.

Download this update and then alter group policy as set in the document is the only way to get rid of this now.
I am very angry that I have to mess about so much just to keep Virus 10 off of my machine. I have never had to mess with a virus this hard. 10 is malware, I did not ask for it and I do not want it.

Good luck with that , i tried that and MS told me that deep down i really do want it and i'm just being stubborn , i said stubborn huh , MS said yes your just being stubborn and i said maybe your right but then i snapped out of it and said "no" .

MS and myself are currently in a standoff but tension is building and i feel this could lead to blows , will report back but it seems resistance is futile .

Read the EULA the next time you have an hour or three. MSpy admits they are uploading your data from your computer and you have to agree to it to use Win 10. They claim they are only going to use it to ferret out problems (and that's probably true) but what is to keep hackers, governments, etc. from accessing that data?

And no matter what definition you want to play semantics with, it is still invasive, a violation of one's privacy, and puts one's data at increased risk for being stolen since MSpy is a far more likely target for hackers and government spying than an individual computer system.

You are still playing with semantics, which has nothing to do with the point, the point being the invasion of people's privacy (and please spare me the tired old rant about nothing is private on the internet) and putting our data at greater risk by putting it in a more vulnerable location. And that doesn't even start to cover the fact that MSpy is doing their level best to ram Win 10 down our throats, the loss of certain features, forced updates that can brick our computers or render expensive software or even hardware suddenly obsolete, sneaking in ads, etc.

So let's see: at some point in time, you...
...installed KB3065987*
...set the GPO that was added to your system
...and then uninstalled KB3065987*.

*Or a newer version of the Windows Update Client.

If you avoided or uninstalled every Windows Update Client from KB3065987 forward, then that GPO setting was ignored. Windows Update Clients prior to KB3065987 are not going to look for that GPO.

If you are going to install KB3065987, then what is the rationale for not updating the Windows Update Clients each time a new version comes out? The November version has helped several people.

It has nothing to do with semantics, and the point I replied to was never about invasion of privacy or data at risk.

Also one last thing i want to mention is Microsoft stealing data from your computer. I mean are they really serious? They can steal somebody's personal information and banking account. That itself is just insane, to believe that Microsoft really wants to do this to us. We are just innocent people that wants to have a functional computer without anyone spying on us etc. From my perspective Microsoft has taken this too far.

If you agree to the EULA, there can be no theft, and I doubt Microsoft is interested in anyone's bank account.

That is really weird. You checked the Widows Installed list and KB3035583 is definitely not there ?

I have read that the registry can get reset by MS for the upgrade - it is still as you set it?

and the group policy setting.

I haven't had a single machine download any 10 upgrade files with the Group Policy set. You should be fine with that in place Indianatone

I finally loaded the last round of Important only updates yesterday
Going by what you're saying I should be getting a win-10 prompt in a few more days

Some users are in the habit of shutting down rather than hibernating after a day's work and those who shutdown have stated that they sometimes have noticed the 'updates being installed' message. Some have stated that there were no updates ready to download or install before the shutdown. I can only remember seeing the shield on the shutdown button once, and a restart did not make it go away - when I chose shutdown I got that message too. It puzzled me as I had not installed any updates that session. I noticed there was quite a bit of re-configuring going on. I can only assume it was one of those background updates that MS chooses to silently install - nor did I get that follow-on WU message that says 'updates were installed on your system'.

The bug that MS has admitted to - an unrelated update that caused the W10 Upgrade to install in the background, without user permission may have been triggered by a shutdown and explain why some users got it and others did not. It would help if MS explained the issue in detail and identified its trigger.

I normally shut down every night. I have noticed that since I started hiding the W10 prep. updates, I no longer see the shield when updates are available. I have always had updates set for "check and let me choose...." option, except when MS changed it without my approval. I don't know if the lack of shield and the W10 updates are connected, but it seems so.

I leave my machines on 24 / 7 as they are doing scans malware/virus/defrag overnight. In the winter they also keep the room warmer. In the spring / summer when we have thunderstorms and it's hot I switch them off. When I fist saw the message to update to 10 I was going to shut down to avoid the patches and checked for updates and got the upgrade to 10. I ended up staying up till 2AM to remove the BS. The registry settings were over ridden but with the Group policy should not be. I wonder what magic combination M$ will come up with next.

Actually Indianatone, we are suppose to get thunderstorms this week. Comcast internet drives me up the wall sometimes. A lot of times I have internet disconnect issues with them. I am currently on a internet special with them that was extended tell sometime next year.

Get a sound card and use its driver? Actually, that's what I did but only because the sound card provided noticeably better sound than the onboard sound on my computer. I had no complaints about Realtek itself.

It worked for me on three different computers. I don't recall having to set things back up after unplugging a speaker (then again, at my age, the only thing I retain well is water). I abandoned Realtek only because I installed a sound card with its own driver.

Suggestions on which one to get would be helpful.

In my opinion the sound difference between stock Windows sound and Realtek sound is big. Realtek sound better. Keep in mind this will very on the motherboard and the sound components used on the motherboard.
Some of today's higher end motherboard have some very good sound qualities.

I use the driver that came on the motherboard CD. Checking in Device Manger the driver is still up to date.
Because I don't update drivers just because their are new ones issued by Realtek I'm having no problems after taking care of the KB problem.

I use KLipsch-THX 2.1 on both of my systems. I really don't know what happens when one plugs and unplugs them. I just keep them plugged in except when I fiddling inside the tower and have to move the tower around.

Yep speakers make the most difference that I've ever noticed
Besides using a music output mode like dance.... is about as far as I have ever gone or really ever needed to go
I have no idea if Realtek is up to date I seriously doubt it
