Windows is freezing up after running Virus Scan, Stops on .dll files!

Hi all, I'm in need of some help here!

My PC has been acting a little funky lately(not showing desktop icons or background on startup) so I decided to run a virus scan through MalwareBytes. It found a couple of Trojans and a Pony, which were promptly deleted but it has been having trouble finishing the scan. Every time I run the virus scan now, it freezes up on different files in SYSWOW64(specifically C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\uniplat.dll) . After it freezes up, if I try clicking on anything outside of MBAM my mouse goes to endless rotating circle, the screen becomes whitewashed, and nothing responds. Trying to access Task Manager gives me a "Windows is not responding" message and all I can do is restart the PC and try again.

I've done this multiple times today and yesterday with the same result (Including in safe mode). I can't find a restore point that works and I'd rather not have to reinstall 7 but I can if I have to. All drivers are up to date and so is BIOS. I did torrent a couple movies a few days ago and I assume a virus hopped on with one of those.

Just a few minutes ago, on one of the restarts, the PC booted into Startup Repair and told me that C:\PSHED.dll was corrupt and could not repair it. It then restarted just fine, I deleted and redownloaded MBAM , started again in Safe Mode and ran MBAM where it froze up again on the same file C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\uniplat.dll

I hope this is enough info, but if you need more I'll send it right away!

Hard drive dying?? If you have a windows CD boot up with it and run chkdsk /r through the command prompt or use any other recovery tool to see if you can test your hard drive. It could be something else but I always start with the basics first.

Ok so I ran chkdsk from the os (I seem to have misplaced my Windows 7 disk) and its currently frozen on step 4 of 5. It currently says

"CHKDSK is verifying file data (Stage 4 of 5)...
68 percent complete. (38260 of 356080 files processed)"

It has been frozen like that for about an hour now and I'm not sure if powering down will screw stuff up or what...

That dll relates to a modem.
Goto device manager and see if there is a small black down arrow on it.
If so right click on it DELETE.
REBOOT
Go back to device manager
click on action select scan for hardware changes it will then reinstall the modem, hopefully without the arrow

Malwarebytes is NOT an antivirus suggest you get one.
i would suggest you run ESET on line scanner.

The black screen implies another problem to me, please follow the instructions in the link below.

Malwarebyes is for Malware and is good to use but as said above, it is not an Anti-Virus. A good free one is Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows So if you can get your PC going, try to scan with it. == You should stay away from Torrents. == You need to try and find that Win 7 Disc. It might can correct your problem with a Repair Install and if you have to do a Clean Install you will need it for that.

I suggest that you run a virus scan using one of these Online Scanners. Trendmicros Housecall Or Sophos Virus Removal Tool Both are good. For your hard drive I suggest running the SeaTools for Windows For your Seagate drive. How to use SeaTools for Windows

Just downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials, it was scanning and got so somewhere in sysWOW64 and the PC did its good ole freeze up(around 4min into it). I've done some tinkering and discovered the system freezes up at nearly 5min of being on every time, but I'm not sure if that helps...

Nothing is showing up under a black arrow under Device Manager and chkdsk froze up again when I ran it last night. Anything else I can do to diagnose what is going on? Any chance a Windows 10 upgrade will get her going? Otherwise it will be a little while until I can get my Windows 7 disk (found out it is at a friend's house but she will not be back until mid January)

As I was typing this I ran MSE again and it froze at Windows\sysWOW64\unremgmp2.exe

Oh, and I should add that chkdsk did work for my seagate HDD and went through just fine. When it froze up, it was going through the Mushkin SSD which has the OS on it.

Well this one is odd... I just went into windows explorer to look for the file sysWOW64\unremgmp2.exe (aka windows media player) and do some snooping into properties to see if i could find something odd. After one single click, explorer and the rest of windows froze up like it does when the AV was trying to access it.

So right now, in my inexperienced mind, this is looking like a dead SSD issue. But if you fine folk have any other ideas, throw them at me!

I am also leaning toward the SSD being bad. This is the time of year to buy a new one, the prices are good. I shop at Newegg.com a lot. Check them out.
