Looking for some assistance.
I've a clean installation of Windows 7 Enterprise running on an Compaq 8510p with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 with default driver 8.632.1.2000 dtd 17Aug09.
I downloaded the beta Windows 7 driver but when I attempt to run the setup I get as far as the Select Installation Operation>Install screen then "Catalyst Install Manager has stopped working" close the program.
This is highly frustrating. Both my monitors work fine but the screensaver nor the monitor power off settings work.
Any help is much appreciated.

For laptop users Gateway/Acer posted 8.652, these are newer then Catalyst 9.9 which were 8.651.

Hate to say it but your 7500 is a lost cause, there will never be a driver update for it for Windows 7. All things considering I am surprised you managed to get it to work with 7 in the first place.

Thank you very much for this post. I was not aware that AMD was even going to bother updating the 9.3.1 legacy drivers anymore.

Update: Apparently, their original notes in the legacy 9.3.1 drivers about NOT providing any future upgrades turns out to be true! I downloaded the Catalyst 9.8 drivers -- but I am sad to report, that at least on my machine, these are the same drivers as came out with version 9.3.1. The CCC info section reports EXACTLY THE SAME version information, even to the point of saying it's Catalyst version 9.3! And before anyone asks, yes -- I tried both an upgrade and clean install, and got the same results both times.

I got a quick question, unfortunately I am pressed for time so I am unable to check through the entire thread if this was answered. If I get a 3rd party ATI card, like from Visiontek for example, should I download Catalyst from their site, or can I download it directly from ATI?

Download it directly from AMD.com, which bought ATI. You don't need to go to Visonteks site to download it.

ATI 9.11 beta drivers. Catalyst 8.67 08/13/2009 (the 5XXX drivers are Catalyst 8.66.6 06/10/2009)

As the file name says these are for Vista and Windows 7. I installed them on Windows 7 X64, no idea yet if they work on X86.

Only know bugs so far are a new X-Fire power saving feature will cause GPUZ to freeze up.

I'm using an X1600 -- which is the same generation as the X1900, and as far as I can tell, the so-called 9.8 "legacy" drivers recently released are the same as the earlier 9.3 legacy drivers. So, either should work equally well, and nothing else newer than 9.3 will work with your card.

The advantages are that CCC allows you to set 3D attributes that affect display effects.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I'm still using the drivers that came with Win7. All is well, but I've not tried any demanding games... yet.

I don't know enough about video drivers to determine if I will benefit from the ATI 9.8 legacy drivers. Any comments would be appreciated

I've installed CCC in the past but had no use for the tweaking, so I'd prefer the drivers only, if possible.

No its not, its got various critical fixes in it and the OGL version is slightly different. The version string hasn't been incremented since the codebase has forked for legacy drivers. It could be incremented manually but its not worth doing since those cards are legacy anyway. Plus it shouldn't really be called 9.8 since it isn't the same as the regular 9.8 drivers and if it was called 9.8 in the file versions then people would be expecting the same fixes etc.

Hance you install the 1.1 patch for the game yet,
