Yeah, I wouldn't trust that AMD Driver Auto-Detect. Stick with SevenForums and we'll keep you clear of any "drive-by downloads"...

Hmm.. I don't know if these are buggy, or perhaps my installation went wrong. I got a monitor crash and later bluescreen with a 116 stop code, this is, I believe driver related.

While playing skyrim, killing multiple foes at the same time caused the monitors to spaz for one second then everything went back to normal. I do not feel this is temp related as the card is sitting on the 70's.

Mines running fine with the latest drivers with a 6870. I just upgraded fyi not a clean install of drivers. Could be it bugged out or has issues with your specific video card.

Looks there's an UPDATED Version of the AMD Catalyst™ Driver v14.4 available for AMD chipsets end-users!

Description:

AMD has received feedback that some users are unable to install the Catalyst 14.4 driver on some motherboards with AMD chipsets. We have investigated the issue and have determined that it was caused by the AHCI driver component that was included with the driver package.

We have therefore removed the AHCI driver component from the driver package and will be providing it as a separate download.

If you were affected by this issue, we recommend you download and install this updated version of the driver.

you need to completely scrub out the old drivers..
what are you using to remove them?


I've been seeing bad reports from people using AMD's own tool for the job..
I wouldn't trust it meself..

you've got to be careful with it though, so read carefully..

Better not use the AMD Clean Up Utility...it deeply wiped many aside system drivers and Pci-e Soundcards....etc!

I will use the "Program & Features" manner, manually delete some leftover folders, CCleaner for registry leftover only!

Meanwhile...Guys is it worth installing those Beta drivers v14.6 v1 when you've got a single discrete card (R9 270X)?

Seems almost for those using high-ends R9 290 series, CrossfireX and mobility ones.

I see more comments about the drop of Windows 8 support than issues with those Beta drivers....

Well those Beta drivers won't work on my system....

The setup went fine but upon reboot and just after login in, it gave me a blue screen (like a blank one), not a Bsod one. Had to hard reset, and, same happened with black screen (slight dark grey line appeared), still not a Bsod one!

Rolled back to the official v14.4!

But at least those official are working great....

That beta version works for all cards or specified versions? if it's limited to different card's use, please specify those card id's which are compatible with beta driver.

schock if you are referring to the HD 3400 listed in your specs, then no this latest beta (or latest official for that matter) will work with it. AMD dropped everything from the HD 4xxx series and down legacy a while ago. The last available for that series of cards is this one,

As to whether it will install for you or not is another matter, seeing as you have a laptop.
