How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

There's a lot that could easily be skipped. I personally don't skip the Windows update client updates as they've been beneficial to my system and they don't seem to do anything when installed alone.
My Windows update has seen a vast improvement in scan times and a massive reduction in Memory and CPU usage when scanning. I haven't experienced anything being downloaded on any of my systems or numerous VM's with just the update clients installed. They seem to need telemetry updates installed alongside before they will even download anything.
Of course, if people are airing on the side of caution and windows update is working fine then I would avoid them.
But my Windows updates were running like a pig before I installed those updates :roflmao:
You'll especially notice the difference on a new VM, I've had to wait 8+ hours for windows update to pick up all the updates. With the latest WU client they are all picked up within 5 - 20 minutes.

I've seen no ill effects without any of them
Of course I do not manually check for updates either
They just appear as they always have

Windows update cleanup usually makes a few reappear but that's about it.

I do not load the Optional section at all
Only Important and now I do research and wait a little before doing them at least a week.
kb3112343 is really the only Important update I've had to hide
I doubt it will be the last if M$ keeps adding win-10 stuff to them.

Windows updates are a real strange beast lately. For some they're running fine, for others they are running really slow. Unfortunately, I was one of the people affected with the slow updates annoyance. Not sure what MS has done, maybe some server changes since Windows 10 release perhaps? Noticed a lot of people complaining about slow updates lately.
Wouldn't put it past MS to cripple them. Don't think Windows 8 has suffered with the slow updates either.

That essentially means you let one load your stuck needing all of them
Updates do not nor have they ever uninstalled well
Then again nothing in windows really uninstalls well.

I am having the same issue with my windows 32 bit install. What might work is do the full windows update reset bat listed on this forum. Import the do not upgrade to 10 registry key file listed on this forum, reboot. Downloading KB3135445 from Microsoft, install it, reboot run windows update if needed. Install updates.

have the same number KB2310138. What is up with that?

Those who reserved the upgrade way back, but never received it, get it first. It will be BITS that will locate these PCs, so there will be no windows update presented. Maybe that is why you have seen nothing to date from WU. The files will just arrive and a reboot will install it.

Now, that is a little concerning if Bits can really do that.

Not mine - I had no problems uninstalling updates. Other Windows uninstalls - yes - I use Revo Uninstaller always

Not on my pc but then I read it has to do with Microsoft Security essentials and I don't have that.

I read somewhere here to change the registry to:

The first entry was not in my registry but then I got rid of GWX some time ago
The second was OK
Now yesterday I changed [FONT=&quot]

"AllowOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001 to 00000000

It is still OK

Really don't like the look of that newest update:

KB 3123862 eerily resembles Microsoft's earlier Get Windows 10 patch | InfoWorld

If it's replacing files like Windows Explorer and Shell32, I have this horrible feeling it's going to start injecting Windows 10 ads into the actual explorer of Windows 7 and 8.1
Of course, I'm just speculating and have no idea yet, but that one is DEFINITELY on my skip list.

None of the update clients replace files like explorer, explorerframe, shell32 or the login screen. This is a completely new one.

From the article:
If you install the optional update, you find that KB 3123862 gives you brand-spanking-new copies of the following:

Explorer.exe, the Windows File Explorer, and ExplorerFrame.dll, which contains supporting files -- icons, menus, bitmaps -- for Explorer.exe
Shell32.dll, the heart of the Windows interface
Authui.dll, which controls logins

Why would it need to change core menus of Windows? Icons? Or the login screen? Sounds weird to me.

Because end support has not ended as we were lead to believe M$ is adding new features when they have said they are done and only security patches are for win-7

I'm not loading them either, I'm just pointing out that it sounds like a whole new update. As I haven't seen any of the previous Windows 10 updates change any of those files before. Even the annoying GWX doesn't alter those. And if people start seeing Windows 10 ads popping up on their explorer Windows or login screens, they're going to be mighty cheesed off!

I avoided it as soon as I read "upgrade capabilities"

I have all the Windows update clients installed. That was December's. There's been one for February that's superseded that. Can't remember the number at the moment though.

KB2310138 must be in here 50 times or more. It says Microsoft Security Essentials. Any idea why it is in there so many times?
