BSOD while Win7 64-Bit is idle or various times (BCCode: 7a)

I have been having blue screens for a couple months now and have been trying to figure out why. The BSOD varies but typically was the STOP 0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

They started after I got better compatible RAM (went from 4Gb to 8Gb) so I have went back to the 4Gb. But the RAM tested out fine (7 passes each stick with MemTest 86+ no problems) and I have gotten a blue screen again yesterday. It was STOP 0x0000007A: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

Hum this might be a problem, on HP's support site there isn't an option for selecting Windows 7 so drivers might become an issue especially when the required driver is for the SATA controller.

You could also try and use HP's identify drivers tools and see if it would pick up anything needed:

Not exactly (apologies for bumping in).

I have analysed the dump, because I couldn't recall the exact error status codes from the 0x7A that leads to hard drive problems but it seems my guess is correct.
Below I have marked a few things red, it means that there are problems with reading data from the hard drive what could be caused by a few things
  1. The drivers of the IDE controller is outdated/corrupted
  2. The hard drive is failing
  3. The cable needs replacement
  4. The connection on the motherboard is the problem in which you would have to get a new motherboard.

Further there is also some corruption with a system driver.
Please follow below suggestions and let us know what the results of the tests are.



Diagnostics Test

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
Run following tests
  1. Short Drive Self Test
  2. Short generic
  3. Long generic
If the short generic fails, no need for the long generic.

   Note
Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

  • scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
  • check the health,
  • benchmark.
It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are
  • of the error scan,
  • make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
  • post screenshots with the benchmark of the
    • transfer rate,
    • access time,
    • burst rate,
    • cpu usage.

  • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
  • When it finished reboot your system
  • Open again an admin command prompt
  • Enter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.

Everyone had suspected the motherboard but now I see the hard drive could be the issue as well???

Okay I tested HDD C where Windows is installed (the 320Gb) and this was the result:

An advice, don't ask for help on different forums. That could cause 2 suggestions to collide against each other what may make things only worse.

System File Checker scans the system files and in case it finds them it'll try to repair them what may take a few tries sometimes.
Check disk scans the partition for bad sectors and if it finds them, depending on the commands given, it marks them as bad so the system won't use them anymore. However a bad sector usually relates to a hard drive that soon completely fails so check disk is a temporary solution.

I use command prompt with chkdsk X: /f /r command, but yours is pretty much the same.

This is what worries me, if this hasn't been taken care of you'll still notice problems.

I think the drive is failing, not like exactly this minute but I would buy a new hard drive and start moving stuff before it's too late.

I have nothing vital on this drive except Windows as it is a pretty fresh install (a month ago) and all vital information is already backed up so that is no big deal. I had already asked the friend who works on my computer hardware for me if I should look into comparative prices for a new HDD or even what an SSD would cost and he only told me that 4Kb of bad sector is not that much and that I should be fine. He then was saying that there is a way to tell the computer not to write on that part of the HD? Is that correct? What is he talking about? Also I don't have a job so for me cost is a factor. What is the smallest size of a hard drive do I need for Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit and Firefox installed and over 200 fonts (I haven't installed those fonts yet since Windows was redone last month)? My current C-drive that is in question is 320Gb in size.

The current 320Gb HDD is a Western Digital Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive and the WD site says it is the Cavier RAID edition.

I also have Acronis True Image WD Edition, Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows, and Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for DOS.

chkdsk /r command, it marks the bad sectors as bad so the system knows not to use them anymore.
/r also includes /f which recovers readable data from the bad sectors if any is present.

I don't know how much space 200 fonts take of space, but 250GB will be more than enough :)
If 250GB isn't enough, simply install programs to your other partitions to make space.

How come smart data doesn't show any problems with the drive? I thought if the drive was failing there would be some smart alerts or something?
