Update KB3121255 (NTFS.SYS) Recommended?

Microsoft initially released KB3121255 as "Optional" and has now upped it to "Recommended".

This update will replace NTFS.SYS with a newer version. This is perhaps the most important driver on any Windows 7 system.

As we have all learned from experience, newer doesn't necessarily mean better. But, of course, older doesn't necessarily mean better either.

Is there any consensus regarding installing KB3121255 or hiding it?

Any positive or negative experiences?

That was my first impression as well, but after some research, it has become clear that it is used in Win7 as well.

Here's the updates that it replaces:

Of those two KB2739159 and KB2928562 I have the latter installed:

KB2928562.jpg

It looks like that KB3121255 was released to fix specific issues.

Ha, you will never find consensus here! ;)

I installed it to all my W7 machines on 2/19/2016 and there have been no issues with it.

I only hide stuff I know to be a problem--this is not one to hide IMO.

Thanks for testing. I'll install that update after creating my next system image backup.

Ha, you will never find consensus here! ;)

That's a month of testing on multiple machines. Good data! :geek:

Thanks for your testing. I'm leaning towards it being a worthy install.

The "testing" I've done of course is just Using the PCs, including doing e.g. image backups and daily file backups and whatnot.

IMO unless an update has W10 written on it somewhere (there are only a handful of baddies) I install everything so I never need look later and wonder "now WHY did I hide those updates?" or when/if I do have any issues with my PCs I can at least answer honestly the the question one usually is presented with i.e. "are you up-to-date"...

:D
