4gb graphics card without fan vs. 2gb card with fan?

My pc is running windows 7 - 64 bit ultimate. I upgraded the motherboard of my PC in 2010 with second generation i3 processor and 4GB RAM. It has integrated intel graphics. I'm planning to buy a new graphic card for my PC.

I found graphics card of 2GB and 4GB under my budget of 7000 bucks.


I am considering the following options


#1 Zotac-GeForce GT 730 4GB (without cooling fan) priced at Rs. 6494


#2 Zotac Nvidia Gt 730 - 2Gb (with cooling fan) priced at Rs. 5198



I do page layout composing that includes photographs of 8 megapixels. I also do photoshop work, HD video editing in Adobe Premiere, 3d modeling in Sketchup and still scene photo realistic rendering in Sketchup using vray.


I don't play games at all.


Is it safe to buy a graphics card (option #1 i.e. 4Gb variant) that does not have a fan?

Will it also perform significantly better than the 4GB version? I live in India that has summer temperatures as 46 degree celsius. Therefore, does a graphic card with a cooling fan becomes a necessity for me?

Yes if the case has poor ventilation already
Using one without a fan would need some pretty awesome intake and exhaust fans but gddr3 memory is way too old.

Every system needs dedicated intake and exhaust fans though.

Agree with ThrashZone, I'd go with the 2GB GDDR5 instead of DDR3.
And if you're living in a hot country then I would definitely prefer a fan than just a heatsink. Even here in
England, with our 2 days of summer, I would still prefer one with a fan. :D
I do have Windows open a lot in my house though, no matter what the weather, so get plenty of fresh air coming in. And my case does have 5 intake fans which helps.

I have added fans to cool fanless graphics cards, most recently 'Asus HD 5450 SILENT'. Not the most powerful card for sure, but man, it was getting HOT! Fan made huge diff.

Well the real factor was gddr5 verses gddr3 memory :)
The fan was just the coincidence
Although a 4gb card without a fan is insane :D

Hahahha... I don't know who is the culprit for such 4gb fanless things. Zotac or Nvidia.

Hey, I'll have now 8Gb total ddr3 ram in my PC as I'll buy new ram too.

So graphics card being ddr5 is not an issue I hope?

I've made a simple modification on my previous graphics card that is a silent edition. Put a fan on it (Super glue it) 80mm will do but be careful on the graphics card it may not sit on the PCI-E slot properly. I still agree on ThrashZone on getting the 2GB DDR5 version. Only choose the silent version if your case has enough fans to cool it off (My GeForce 210 doesn't have one and the chassis has a 120mm front fan). Changing the thermal compound is another solution to thermal problems (But I wouldn't reccomend doing it every year, just a maximum of 1.5 years will do and a cleaning will do the trick.)

Are you talking $70.00 dollars because $7000.00 is extreme for any GPU lol ;)
