Hey folks, new to the seven forums.

Im hoping you can help me, I have recently made a uefi bootable windows 7 usb and installed windows 7 home 64, I downgraded from windows 10 64 as I was having compatibility issues with some programs I use for work and games.

Anyway after converting my HDD using diskpart to GPT and installing windows 7 64 with no issues, I decided to go ahead and download drivers and other things as you do after a fresh install, and I find I am able to browse websites such as google and others with no problem, but anytime I try to download say for example graphics drivers, the download will start and maybe get to 20 MB and just slow right down and eventually stop completely, I am currently using a wireless connection to my Sky router, but I have also tried wired and it has the same effect.

I have tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalling them, wiping windows 7 and reinstalling, changing wireless adapters, resetting router, resetting tcp/ip settings and I just cannot figure it out. Before I downgraded to windows 7 64 from windows 10 64 the internet was fine and downloaded perfectly normal. Like I say I can browse websites fine but when I try to download anything the above happens. I have also tried turning off the windows firewall and windows defender.

I have checked for malware and viruses and neither are currently present.

Please can anyone help me who may have a solution or who has had this problem themselves, you would be really helping me out.

Thanks

David

First, what make of motherboard and processor (Intel or AMD) are you using? It could be as simple as your LAN drivers.
Have you also tried an Internet speed test (like speedtest.net)?
What kind of result do you get?

Hi mate cheers for the reply, I'm using an Intel i7 4790k CPU and a gigabyte x97 ud3h motherboard with version F9 bios, I have done speed test on win 7 it is downloading at 6kbs and an upload of 1kbs and when I was on win 10 it was 45 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload, I have a 50 Mbps internet connection.

I would definitely check those LAN drivers and does your MB have Intel GbE LAN with CFOS internet accelerator software?
You might also want to test if your router is defective. If you are only getting modem speeds I would check with your ISP.

It does, however I have tried the accelerator software and it unfortunately made no difference, I also have a laptop with Windows 10 on, running off the same router and the laptop is getting good speeds, plus the router is only about 9 months old. The driver's that I am using for the motherboard are coming from my motherboard disc software, il try and grab them from online (for maybe newer versions) on my laptop and get them installed on my desktop to see if it makes a difference and report back.

Did you get the drivers from Intel or Gigabyte?
What is the date of the drivers?
What is the full model number and revision of your motherboard?

Thank you for the update.
The LAN drivers from gigabyte are definitely the better choice.
You might try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and retry your speed test.

Booted into safe mode with networking and tried downloading different things, and it produced the same result as if I was not in safe mode, same speed 6kbs ish and then slows down further and stops. :(

Could you also check the colour of the Connection Speed LED next to the Ethernet LAN port on the back of the motherboard?

The manual page 21 doesn't give red as a valid colour. It's the LED to the left of the Ethernet port. The manual doesn't give a colour for the right hand Activity LED.

That's the only light I can see near the ethernet port, beyond that there isn't any other lights.
