Solved Any idea what I can do to improve my SSD's performance

I ran a benchmark on this particular computer and it complained that my SSD behaved like it was not connected to a SATA3 port which was correct and I changed it.

I ran the benchmark again and here are the results:

It is complaining that my ssd is running far below expectations.

Seems fine to me but what do I know?

I would appreciate any suggestion for what I can do to make it better.

Looking at the benchmark results page the thing that really stands out to me is this line:

"Actual performance vs. expectations."

Do you think that your SSD is slow or is it only because a random benchmark with little to no basis in any quantifiable data (judging by the above line) is telling you that this is the case and therefore your expectations have been lowered as a result?

Also two of the three "benchmarks" for the SSD return values well into the "best" range and it is the third value alone that is dragging it into the "worst" range. Also worth noting that there is no middle ground between best and worst either.

My take on as very quick read through is that the benchmark is worthless but I may be proven wrong.

This was the second Windows 7 computer that I built and I was a bit of a greenhorn. That's the reason that I hooked the SSD up to SSD2.0. Now that that is corrected, I am happy with this computer. Never really noticed the difference in performance.

I'll leave this unsolved for a while but I am content with it.

I've never heard of that benchmark.

A better idea would be to run more widely used SSD benchmarks such as CrystalDiskMark, ATTO, or AS and compare your personal results to those of others who are using the same SSD as you are using.

Regardless--I wouldn't much worry about SSD benchmarks. I've never been able to tell in actual usage that any of my SSDs is faster than another. I'd be more concerned about price, reliability, capacity, customer service, etc.

Just by coincidence, I have the same SSD as you--mine is the 128 GB capacity model. Your 256 GB model may be a bit faster than mine.

Here's another mx100 with win-10 on it
This is an original the first was a replacement/ refurbished Crucial sent back that died with Linux on it
Pretty close the first is getting replaced with a samsung 850 evo 250gb this weekend

What is that BAD we see on both benchmark results?

Notice in the upper left hand corner of your pics where it says "Bad".

That means the drive is not properly aligned. If properly aligned, that number should be evenly divisible by 4 and in your pictures it is not.

I think improper alignment is fixable with an app such as Partition Wizard, a free download.

I'm not positive how much difference it will make, but it's the first thing I'd do.

Regarding the firmware--I'd be reluctant to update it unless you had major problems. The last time I looked at the Crucial forums, there were many complaints about firmware updates going bad and causing more issues. Just leave it alone unless you have a very serious issue and you are sure only new firmware will resolve that issue.

I have the Crucial forum bookmarked but I seldom go there.

Stupid me didn't know I had a problem until I ran that benchmark program.

So----------- tomorrow I have three more Crucial SSDs to run Partition Manager on. I'm a happy camper.
