Got a new PC with Win 7 Pro+ SP 1 already installed.
I believe some past Win 7 updates were done by the company I bought it from
But I think there were / are still a lot of updates to be added
Windows Update is hanging on 'Checking for updates'

I was thinking it might be best to just install the new July 2016 Rollup update, however...
Can I install the rollup update on top of whatever Win 7 updates have already been added to this PC?
Will the rollup update installer know which ones are already on the pc and ignore them?
Or will the previous updates interfere with the rollup update and screw up my pc?

Thanks for any advice and / or best steps to take for getting my new pc fully updated (sans Win 10 :D )

Hi Metroid, it is okay to install the July rollup. This is MS new way of delivering recommended updates for that month. Instead of delivering them as separate updates they just all get bundled into one package now. It won't include security updates though, or updates that were released before MS switched to this method. So you still might have some to install after the rollup has been installed.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I confused myself and made the mistake of referring to the monthly rollup update
I was thinking that rollup was the other one I had hear about before, but it wasn't....
I was thinking of / meant to say "Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1"
which includes most updates that were released after the release of SP1 for Windows 7

In any case, I used task mgr to stop the windows update since it was checking for a long time
Then surprisingly it acted as if it had checked without any issue and listed all of the updates!

So now I'm installing them in small batches from oldest to newest and restarting the computer every so often
In not too long I think I should have all of the updates installed

I will update the thread as soon as I can with my results

------

I am still curious about my original question, but in regard to the "Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1" (again I apologize for initially referring to the wrong thing)...
Can that entire rollup of all updates since SP1 be installed on top of whatever other updates were already done so far? Will it just ignore the ones that already exist?

Thanks again!

Hi Metroid, sorry for the delay, I lost track of the thread when I got distracted.

Some people have confused the Convenience Rollup with the June rollup, no problem.

I'm not 100% sure about the convenience rollup installation over previous updates, as I haven't used the rollup myself. I use a 3rd party package for my updates instead.
