Solved recommend me a good motherboard to go with my intel i5 cpu

ok folks right now i have a Intel Core i5 4590 on a gigabyte B85M-D3H, the board is ok, i just hate the bios is crappy and looks outdated, so i wanna upgrade it to something better with a good bios, i have 16gb of ddr3 gskill sniper memory... so what is a good and reliable board that wont fail,....

Not really an Intel expert, so I can't recommend a model, but have a look at offerings from ASUS. They have pretty solid mobos and a new graphical BIOS system that is quite complete. Lots of options and settings, and it looks good too.

I don't think you have any way of knowing what board brand or model "won't fail". No chance at all.

There's too much variation in the quality control and manufacturing processes of all brands. You get lucky or you don't. You have to live with that. Googling for a couple of minutes will find numerous horror stories about all of them.

If you want to emphasize BIOS features and "looks", Asus might be the best bet. Recent Gigabyte boards are more glitzy, but you need an earlier generation board and Gigabyte in that era wasn't glitzy.

Considering all of that, I'd just pick out an Asus mid-range board that appeared to have the features I needed--ports, slots, etc. You've got a 4590 CPU, so you aren't going to be over-clocking to speak of. Probably not a Z chipset. Look for Socket 1150, probably H97 chipset, if I recall correctly. Maybe 125 to 175 bucks.

It would help if you told us what vendors you are considering.

Amazon only?

Newegg only?

A local store with a web site?

A local store without a website?

Some other online store with a web site?

I just looked at Newegg, and they did not have many Gigabyte H97 boards in stock.

And we don't know if you need 2 RAM slots, 4 RAM slots, how many USB 3.0 ports you need, whether you want an ATX motherboard or a micro ATX motherboard, if you want to spend $99 or $250, etc, etc.

You should generally just shoot for a board from a major manufacturer within your price range that has the features you need. You can find the features of any given board at the manufacturer's web site. The features can differ considerably from one board to the next.

A mid range board with features that would satisfy most people should be available for say $150.

Your current motherboard is micro ATX. For all we know, your Thermaltake case will not accept a standard ATX motherboard.

Not sure I agree with that. Not much of a fanboi for any brand but I have tried a lot of mobos and Gigabyte has been consistently durable for me. Asus also gets high marks for dependability.

To the OP; I recently bought a Gigabyte Gaming3 (H170 chipset) for his new i5 and it has been faultless.

ok update, I ended up with a asus sabertooth Z97 Mark 1 motherboard, got it brand new for only $80 bucks could not pass that up.. must say this is a nice board lots of options I do plan on upgrading my cpu to a K version so I can overclock, but in due time.... thank you to all with suggestions

Make sure you get an i7-4790K or 5775C otherwise its not worth the money just to have an LGA1150 K CPU. You wont get much benefit from a few hundred MHz.
