Solved How to turn off WiFi so that it does not re-enable after reboot?

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

Doesn`t the laptop have an on off switch for wireless ? Most laptops do.

Try using windows mobility center.
Press win+x .Turn off wireless. It should stay off unless it is turned on.
Alternatively, you may press the function button on which symbol of tower or wifi is drawn to turn wifi on/off. You may have to press fn key along with the designated funtion key depending on your laptop's config.

Right click Network, select Properties. Select Change Adapter Setting. Right click and hold on the Wireless Network Connection and drag the Wireless Network Connection to the desktop to create a shortcut. Whenever you want to disable the WIFI, just double click the shortcut and select Disable at the bottom of the box. To re-enable the WIFI just double click the shortcut again. It's Just That Easy!

I am with the O/P on this one. It would be nice to have a choice to boot without WIFI and then manually select on, only if it is needed. Seems to be an option that manufacturers have a problem to realize that internet connection is not always the most important thing to happen for some people.

That worked perfectly. Reboot does not re-enable wireless.

Did that. Red "X" appeared on the sys tray icon. I rebooted. Red "X" still persistent (even after waiting a couple of minutes to be sure).

To re-enable the WIFI just double click the shortcut again.

Did that. But the same dialog box as above re-appeared. The "Disable" button was displayed, at the same time as the red "X" was displayed on the sys tray icon :shock:

After that, I restored the connection using my normal technique: click a sufficient number of icons and buttons a sufficient number of times, in random sequence

After restoring the connection, your method works if I DON'T REBOOT. In other words, the second double-click on the desktop shortcut presents a message box with "Enabling", followed by "Enabled".

If I remember, I might try your method again just before shutdown - to verify the strange behaviour of the desktop shortcut after reboot (as explained above).
