Is Win7 running on LGA1151 + Skylake Motherboards?

Good for you since you have 2.0. I think I don't have any choice but to move up to 8.1? So the USB 3.0 driver will make the 3.0 port work with my Keyboard and mouse and other USB 2.0 stuff?

Yeah I know.. reason why I had to move up the OS ladder since I am not going to be able to make it work and I need to use the computer so when there would be a fix then I would move back but for now I have to resolve to something that works for the time being.

Well i'm building a new rig when all the parts arrive (working and undamaged hopefully) it's a skylake build using the I7 6700k unlocked CPU and a Z170 mobo , Asus maximus viii hero and i will be installing Win 7 sp1 , from Sata DVD , the mobo has iirc 2 PS2 ports on the rear io, and i intend to instal win 7 using both normal kb and mouse but using female usb to male ps2 adapters
like this
maplin-usb-female-to-ps2-male-adapter.jpg
Then install the usb3 drivers ect, mainly because my older system is running XP SP3 and it runs perfectly fine, though it is 10yrs old, with a small amount of ram, so slipstreaming the usb drivers to the win 7 iso and then making it boot from a pen drive, is not possible, likewise using the mobo manufacturers tools to do this is, because they wont install never mind run on xp

Also due to me valuing my privacy i will not be ever upgrading to Microsoft/NSA spy-ware AKA windows 10 Until either MS give the option to end users to completely disable all it's info harvesting , or more likely the coders/hackers out there create some software ect to completely block everything permanently, I have had a play with WIN10 on a friends new PC and it sucks IMO, i will never use its apps or most of it's other integrated bloat (same for win 8.1) they imo are taking up valuable space on my hdd, and hogging resources to,( unless you are able to disable the lot) I have a desktop machine , not a smart phone or tablet or other device with a touch screen, and therefore don't require the associated bloat, microsoft have lost the plot with this crap

My PC is personal to me, i therefore decide what it does or doesn't do, that includes or should include who it communicates with, Microsoft thinks that it knows better, i don't agree,

That adapter may or may not work.

I've used them and they work OK for general use after installation---such as making Word documents, Internet browsing, etc.

But I wouldn't be highly confident that they will send the correct signals needed during a Windows 7 installation on Z170.

Please keep us posted if they work successfully for you.

Use a dvd install and everything should be fine.

Most of the mobo manufacturers do tend to steer people on to that method of installing win7 ,maybe due to internal odd being dated, or because some case manufacturers are no longer providing the odd bays in the cases , One thing though there doesn't seam to be anything focused on my scenario, where there is no second machine running win 7 available ,

I haven't seen that in any of Cooler Masters' line up, either way, conventional DVD burners are just 20 dollars a pop, so why not slap one in? A little more than that and you gain the flexibility of Blue-Ray to burn beyond the 4.5gig limit.

I think it's insane. I took part in the Windows 10 Beta and then upgraded to 10 only to find myself calling Microsoft and begging them to put me back to Windows 8. I think Win 10 is about the most reprehensible excuse for an operating system ever designed by Microsoft and would use their Mistake Edition (if it were possible) before I'd ever consider returning to Windows 10. If I can't use Windows 7 on the Broadwell system I plan to build it's gonna have to be "hello, Linux" because I'm just about done with these Micky mouse tablet operating systems they keep churning out for desktops.

NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO LIST ALL HARD DRIVES HERE. Cuts me off at 5. Did you know that if you run a network you can scan your PC for viruses via other PCs using several different virus scanners? No virus scanner gets it all. This is narrows down the window for contracting a virus. By using multiple operating systems you can use different virus scanners with no risk of conflict.

Then I don`t understand why W7 wouldn`t install on a Z170 board, even after reading that article, so......

I`m befuttled

I mean it`s not like any manufacturer makes a board for a certain OS, unless I`m missing something here.

I have a Gigabyte Z170 MB and a i5 6600k and I'm running Win 7 HP 64.
As new MB has only USB 3 ports and new SATA drivers that Win 7 doesn't have, you must add them to the Win 7 installation disk.
Many manufactures has a program to do so, even Intel.
Read my tutorial Create a Windows 7 USB flash installation with new drives for new MB's
You will find all you need there.

Then I don`t understand why W7 wouldn`t install on a Z170 board, even after reading that article, so......

I`m befuttled

I mean it`s not like any manufacturer makes a board for a certain OS, unless I`m missing something here.

Well you didn`t try hard enough.

And the issue is not with Skylake, the issue is with the Windows 7 installer, it does not support usb 3.0 during the install, but it never has.

Plug your mouse and keyboard into your usb 2.0 slots and use a dvd to install Windows 7, you will be done in 15 minutes like the rest of the world.

If you have to install with a usb stick, then just create an installer with integrated usb 3.0 drivers with the software that 99% of the board makers offer.

I also just upgraded my cpu/ram/mobo to Skylake and am in the process of installing W7 x64. Took me a while messing with Gigabyte's packaged usb drivers combined with a usb install drive, but because it would not let me prepare my ssd the way I liked (WITHOUT the useless 100mb system reserve partition that you can't remove), I instead just installed w7 the traditional way with the dvd. Install went fine, no issues.

However, my question now is how do I get my usb ports (any of them) to work with anything other than mouse and keyboard? I would download the USB drivers from Gigabyte, but my LAN driver is located on my 2TB wd Passport that I cannot currently access.

The workaround for the System partition has been the same since Windows 7 was released - It will not overwrite existing partitions. Create as many partitions as you need before you start and don't leave any spare space and the installer will not create a system partition. simply select the windows partition you wish to use during the install process
