Solved Open Office and LibreOffice won't install

I posted this problem in the OpenOffice forum, but I see now it's really a Win 7 problem. I've installed maybe 50 programs, both 32-bit and 64-bit, on this new Win 7 computer, without problems. OO and LO refuse to install.

I have "ownership" of every file in C:\Windows. I was advised to do these first 2 steps, but they don't work for me:

I gave permission to SYSTEM to open Installer.
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Temp listed only my username, not SYSTEM. I gave my username permission.

LibreOffice 5.0.0(32-bit) and 5.2.5 (64-bit) are still giving me 2203 errors. Open Office 4.1.3 gave me three 2203 errors while installing, only installed partially.

I've used Open Office for years on XP, and if we can just solve that one, I'll skip LO.

Once you have a correctly installed Windows 7, all you should need to do, assuming that you have a version of the installer that is compatible with windows 7, is the right click the installer and select run as Administrator.

Are you installing while logged in as a user with or without Admin rights? If you can, always install software as a user with Admin rights.

I agree with Barman58, sounds like you need to re-install Windows and start over, it shouldn't be necessary to jump thru hoops to install OO or LO.

You're being rude. I'm the sole user and I run everything as Admin. Didn't help. I took ownership because Win told me I couldn't access the Installer. I'm a very experienced user, don't fiddle with files I don't have to. I'm not going through that song and dance every time I want to install new wallpapers or new fonts or ask CCleaner to clean the Temp folders.

I don't have a CD anyway. The puter was built by a member of my computer club and I won it in the Feb monthly raffle. I'm planning to ask him for a disc.

I'm installing as Admin. I've also used OO on several Win versions. Win 7 has that UAC inherited from Vista (pardon the expression.)Only these 2 are problematic of all the programs I've installed.

Just my thoughts. Reason for them in this post is this. Many people around the world read our posts and because of that we don't want to give misleading information.

I can't speak for Nigel but the impression I got from post #2 was intended for the masses that read our forum. I also agree that a Clean Install or Repair Install is needed.
Windows 7 System files should be left alone.

**Let it be known that I'm also one that has done dumb and sometimes stupid things with my systems. I do thinker a lot. It is one method of learning but a better method of learning is learning by others mistakes.**

So my recommendation is a Clean Install and do not take ownership of Systems.
With a Clean Install and proper activation along with needed Updates you should not have a problem installing your selected Office program.

Where did the OpenOffice and Libre Office EXE or ZIP installs come from? Some sources might not be sending those installs to you in the best of shape. Or, sometimes even the original sources suffer internet server-to-server hiccups. Although it rarely happens, I have had to let a source know their install EXE or ZIP was corrupt at the source, please remake.

I have not done anything stupid with this system, and I'm not going to reinstall a system that's less than a month old...if I had a disk.

I'm running 64-bit, but it accepts programs of both types.

The PCRenew group in my club also churns out dozens of refurbs to give to schools and charities, and I doubt they buy a new Win7disk at $149 for each computer. If you can get me a disk, that would be great.

Do you need the contents of each Tab?

As for installing OpenOffice, reinstalling the entire system for this is like using a shotgun to kill an ant. I can use Word, which I already own but have never used, or Wordpad. I use only very basic functions, about as much as you see in the above toolbar.

Refurbished computers MUST have a specific COA sticker, and USE the associated key.

From what you stated earlier i suspect its showing non-genuine as PCRENEW used a generic ISO,
this causes issues like yours - showing as non-genuine.

Hopefully it will resolve the issue, UNLESS a new motherboard has been installed, then your out of luck.

I would suggest you go back to PCRENEW and tell them that they are issuing possibly/providing non-genuine computers

To RolandJS , I've gotten the programs from the Open Office website. Actually OO installed this morning, for no logical reason. I'm having a similar problem with InQuisit WebPlayer, which I need for some surveys I do. Is there a reason that 3 particular programs wouldn't load on such a computer? or is it totally unrelated?

I'm not a manager, just a semi-retired businesswoman, and not in any STEM field.
No bubble. I had no idea, and I don't understand all that code, but thanks. I'll email the guy. I didn't figure they buy a $149 Win disk for each computer they build, but most are given to charities and schools.

This is not the same as a commercial refurb I bought from MicroCenter. It's a subgroup of my computer club, they build from scratch, I guess starting with a case and mobo.

Should I just copy all the stuff I posted and your reply?

So why is this illegal? We are a large org., with 650 members, and (is it 501K? a non-profit group)

What's rearming? I know the puter was built in October of last year, don't know if that's relevant. Does the KB apply to 64-bit too?

My system page shows activation, and is downloading updates. Is this a VLK? I'm familiar with the VLK's for Win XP, but I didn't think you could do that in Win7. And I do have the whole product key. I want to make sure I understand what's going on before I email this group. I'll get back to you tomorrow, or whenever you have time to reply.
