This happened randomly a few times in the past week. At first I suspected the video card, then the power supply (which is new). But now that I am looking at this report, I am not sure. I have the .dmp file, but don't know what to do with it

I notice you're using an unstable BIOS version, please revert back to the latest stable BIOS version. Or, is there a reason why an unstable BIOS version is installed?

Unfortunately, I miss some data for analysis, the dump is unfortunately a bit limited in providing data.
Please run CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID, open it and make screenshots of the following tabs
  • CPU
  • Mainboard
  • Memory
  • SPD*
  • Graphics
*SPD shows the details of each stick, you can show the details by choosing different slots in the left upper corner.
Please make screenshots of each stick.

Please post each screenshot in your next reply/replies.

Can you please clarify what it means an unstable BIOS version?
axe0, the installed BIOS software version is the last version available. I searched the web for a more recent version and none is available. If you know which version is the stable one, please let me know. However, I never had any problems with this version for the past 5-6 years.

From Gigabyte support page,
BETA describes a new version that is reliable yet may not include all the features of the final product. During this phase we are previewing new features and gathering customer input to insure our product provides the best experience possible.

Version 1601 is the most recent stable version. I'm aware of the release date, but unless there is a specific reason why an unstable version is installed, it is preferable before an unstable version.

However, I never had any problems with this version for the past 5-6 years
No offense, but I can think of a lot of reasons why this isn't a good argument :(

What are the 3.3v, 5v and 12v values according to the BIOS?

P.S: I take no offense for receiving knowledge, nor do I bite the hand that feeds me. I will search for the version 1601.

What are the 3.3v, 5v and 12v values according to the BIOS?

Please see the attached BIOS voltage info.
Also I use sometimes siv32 but could not find there this info.

Hi folks.
I have notice something in the pictures in post #6

The top two pictures show the ram in Dual Channel.
A lot of the ram specs are not shown.

The next two pictures down show the ram in Single Channel.
I have no idea how that can be.

The two pictures down from the top give ram specs.

This could be due to mismatch ram, bios or a faulty motherboard.

The memory specs for your motherboard.

The two single channel 512MB RAM were the original RAM. I had four of them. If you recommend it, they can be removed because after installing it, I learned that Windows 7-32 bit recognizes only 3 GB of RAM. But I would also love to hear from axe0 whether he has any other comments.

CPU temperature is pretty high for only being in the BIOS, when was the last time the system was cleaned of dust?

I agree with Jack, I did notice it but already forgot it when I replied :)

Mismatched ram and overheating is not conducive to a proper operating computer system.

Those are basic things that, in my opinion should be taken care of first.

I removed the two DDR-2 512 MB bars, and cleaned the CPU, the GPU, and the case thoroughly with compressed air and the vacuum cleaner, (I do this every two months on a regular basis). Now, the BIOS indicates 60°C down from 71°C and the SIV32 analysis indicates around 40°C.

The event viewer Administrative Events is empty. I only get a single message at boot time, that the WiFi completed the connection.

axe0, is there a place where I can download free the updated BIOS firmware? I would much appreciate it.

My apologies as I avoided to click on the "Access Denied" link until I saw that this appeared in previous posts of this thread.

Unfortunately, the latest BIOS update I found for Windows 7 Pro 32bit for the PB5-E is my installed 2009 version, and PB5-E Plus version is even earlier (2008) I repeated the same searches for the 64bit version, (just in case), so I must be doing something wrong. But I did download the chipset driver which were never updated since the the computer was purchased in February 2007.

Today the computer froze again completely but without BSOD and DMP file. While reading the ASUS FAQ about some possible crash problems related to the mouse, I remembered installing the Logitech SmoothScroll software because I had problems of scrolling, and the crashes began to occur. Uninstalled the software and replaced the drained batteries (after measuring with a voltmeter), and now will wait to see if this solves the problem.

I also decided to close this thread with the unresolved BIOS CPU temperature of about 65°C (after cleaning), and the BIOS firmware upgrade. My sincere thanks for all the help and suggestions. I learned a lot and if it crashes with a BSOD again, I will repost the issue.
