I'm watching the Senate channel [C-Span2] and they're holding a vote to repeal the privacy rules passed in 2016:

Congress is set to vote Thursday to nullify the new broadband privacy rules passed by the Federal Communications Commission last year.

The rules, which would have required Internet service providers to ask customers' permission to collect, use and sell personal information, were passed Oct. 27, 2016

Right now it's: 40 Aye - 39 Nay , with a simple majority to over turn. Nay is good for us, the user.

Update, resolution goes to House:

U.S. senators voted 50 to 48 to approve a joint resolution from ................... that would prevent the Federal Communications Commission's privacy rules from going into effect. The resolution also would bar the FCC from ever enacting similar consumer protections. It now heads to the House.

Maybe I'm mis-reading you, but agreed win10 is ad-oriented, but this isn't about ad revenue, it's about privacy.

It surprises me that Mr. Pai would do that when just this afternoon he announced his department would crack down on robocalls: FCC launches crackdown on fraudulent robocalls | TheHill

Biggest difference is the isp only tracks web traffic
10 tracks everything you do locally and web traffic

I'd be more conferrable with just web traffic lol

Well, internet is not just in US you know.
There are many but many other countries each one with its own rules about it.
I live in a country where the privacy is already not so private so I don't see the real problem there, sorry.

That crackdown is targeting criminally fraudulent calls, like someone pretending to be from the IRS demanding money. He would never interfere with the rights of "legitimate" businesses to extract data or money from their customers.

I was watching a story on this issue and not even one mention about microsoft and win-10 and all of their privacy selling practices
Possibly they do not use 10 or are intentionally leaving MS out of the same category as this issue :/
Either way it is worse what MS is doing than what isp's do
Thing is if isp's make more money we might all see a drop in pricing
What do we get for win-10 ?
Nothing but the promise of a better win-10 and assurances that MS and their "partners" respect our privacy lol priceless :roflmao:
