Thanks. I can't see any obvious issues in your logs. I'm out of ideas really but specifically for Firefox you could try these instructions for a clean install of Firefox that will retains bookmarks and extensions.

Ignore the part about "install add on from file" as the extension should install anyway.

Other than that I'd say update your graphics driver or reinstall it but I'm not expert on that. Actually if the problem only affected Firefox this time around you can probably rule out your graphics driver.

Yes, I think I will do a fresh reinstall of Firefox, as it has always updated onto the old version. I'll do it next time they bring out a new version as it's been about two weeks since the last new version so it'll be any day now!! (can't believe how many bloody updates - drives me mad!)

On another note -what is your firewall? It seems that you have a lot of stuff being allowed to connect. Do you get notified on new connections with options to block or allow?

No I don't think I get notified. From where can you tell I have lots of things connected?

And how do I disconnect them please?

Sorry - my mistake. I was looking at your netstat log followed by your processes log. When I wrote the reply I was thinking that you had a lot of connected processes but that's not the case. I kind of forgot that it's a running processes log and nothing to to with connections that are shown in the netstat log!

Sorry for the delay.

Firefox took over a month to bring out a new version! (It always seems a lot more frequent than that!)

I have now done a clean install of Firefox. Touch wood it is ok now.

(There was a hairy moment when I lost my menu bar and thought I couldn't get it back, but I found it!)

Will mark as solved if still ok in a week.

I followed the instructions on the second link above.

No I did not backup, I got rid of everything to do with FF as I wanted a clean install and manually add my new prefernces later.

Did I do it wrong?

I don't know if you did it wrong. The full removal process is outlined in more detail here:

The problem is that if any traces of the program or profile remain they might well be integrated into your fresh install and you get the same problems. If you are sure that you did a full removal of Firefox then it can't be a Firefox problem. Maybe it's time to start looking at your graphics card driver. Others can help you with that. Usually it's a case of fully removing the driver and rebooting before reinstalling a working graphics driver.

Anyway for Firefox the important parts were:

After the uninstall check for and delete
C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox or, C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox and C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates and/or C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (if found)

C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile folder and profiles.ini file

A reboot is needed before installing a fresh copy of Firefox.

I know I did everything ... except I can't be sure if I rebooted first!

I guess I will have to try again.

Yes, it could be the graphics card. And the fact I can't find anyone else online with the same problem leads me to think it possibly isn't Firefox

Test Cyberfox Portable. It uses it's own profile so doesn't mess with your Firefox profile. See if you get the same problem with videos.
