Hello Cando,

Since the Family Pack copy of Windows 7 comes with a product key number for up to 3 computers, then yes you can install and activate on 3 different computers located anywhere using a different key number per computer.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I neglected to ask 1 more question I had re: Win 7 Family Pack. These upgrade versions don,t have a Bootloader capability. When all is done will this software boot after a clean install from the Bios and after removing a valid activated version of Vista 64 bit ?

Thks.

Thanks, To be specific I was just wondering if UPG ver. incl family included a bootloader or depended on whatever was left on the HD. after the clean install.

It raises the question what is the difference between UPG and FULL versions of the O/S /

Yes, you can boot from the Upgrade Windows 7 installation discs. As far as what the differences are inbetween them for installing, I have not seen any yet.

I find this sameness disturbing. Wonder whats in store down the road

I never thought I would see and UPG version with a boot capablity.

This family pack UPG is even more weird

Thanks Brink

Confirmed: Windows 7 Family Pack Disc is Identical to Upgrade Media

Just in case this was a concern: I've done a file compare between the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade media and the Windows 7 Family Pack media and they are indeed identical. The weird thing is that you only get one product key with the Family Pack... Paul Thurrott,s

me either! The whole "upgrade" aspect can be confusing, especially since the documentation in the Home Premium box specifically states that if you don't have any OS installed on your HDD, all you need to do is simply boot and do a clean-install--no prior version required. If I had purchased the FULL version, I would have been really ticked off knowing that I could get the same results from a much cheaper UPGRADE version. That said, it REALLY has made clean-installing my XP boxen a dream.

Of course, the conspiracy theorist in my says that Microsoft VERY BADLY wants to get Windows 7 onto as many PCs as it can. And if that means providing a cheap "upgrade" that's really a "full" install, then so be it, as long as they can get as many completed, successful installs as possible.
