Hi,
My Windows 7 PC has developed a fault with both the mouse and keyboard after start up last night. During start up the keyboard numbers lock lights and the mouse moves, about thirty seconds after windows has fully loaded the keyboard light goes out and it becomes unresponsive and the mouse stops moving. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H. All updates have been installed as of Monday 12 June 2017.

I cannot even use safe mode as the mouse and keyboard both stop working.

Anyone had this problem? Any advice much appreciated.

Gerald

You have to find out if it's a hardware or software issue. Unfortunately it seems to be a hardware issue.
- Try to boot another OS. Use the Win 7 installation disk to see if you have mouse and keyboard.
- Try to attach the mouse and keyboard to another port.

Put my installation disc in a safe place, haven't found it yet, but I have a restore disc. The system does not boot from DVD and it does not show in the BIOS set up. Have tried the mouse and keyboard in different USB ports with no luck, tried both items on my wife's PC both work okay.

Thanks for the reply,
I put a new battery in as the one that was in was the original. rebooted and chose optimum settings. The optical drive is now found and I ran the rescue disc, it found some faulty windows files which it repaired and then restarted. It now runs for abour five minutes before the mouse and keyboard lock.

Reading your fist post, something about keyboard light goes out call my attention.
It means that your system has locked.
- Do you have a multi meter to check the power supply voltages? Do you have another PS to replace?
- On BIOS, are the temp warnings enabled (CPU and Chipset)?
- Is the CPU fan running? Did you take out the CPU heat sink recently for cleaning?

Hi to you both,

I recently had a new power supply fitted when it blew, the repair shop said he would take a look at it as the repair was still under warranty, took it about an hour ago.

A long time ago I had a power supply do the same.
I replaced the power supply and over a few days everything in the computer went bad, piece at a time. It finally was to costly to fix and I got rid of the entire computer.
I'm thinking the spikes in volts and amps when the power supply blew up did everything in.

Got the PC back a couple of days ago, told he had the unit run it for about six hours each day with no problems. Connected back up when I got home with only the monitor, keyboard and mouse as advised by the engineer. The following day had the unit running for about nine hours when it started giving problems again, this time a message showed in the systray that the USB port had an over current error. I ran USB tree view and found that the USB 3 ports in xHCI mode were causing the error but no items were connected to the ports. I disabled the xHCI mode but it still slows but not quite locks. Looks like a new motherboard is needed.:(
