Laptop turns itself on in middle of night then freezes till it dies

I'm at wits end about this.
I got my hard drive replaced a few weeks ago (dropped my laptop) and had an OEM version of Windows 7 installed. After getting home and re-installing all my drivers /programs, I used it like I normally do. Fast forward 2 weeks. I wake up and press the power button but the laptop is dead (this is odd because I usually put it in hibernate on a full charge before I go to bed).
This continued to happen every day, my computer s dying overnight. Since last week I have been observing it overnight. Whether it be hibernate or sleep, my computer will turn itself on and become completely unresponsive (sounds like it's on but the screen is off. My test to see if it's frozen is to hit the 'num lock' key to see if it lights up). This event is a 100% occurrence. The only way to turn it off is to hold the power button for 5 seconds. Basically if I leave my laptop in sleep or hibernate, it will turn itself on at a random interval and immediately freeze. It will stay this way until it dies or I do a hard shut down. Also, if I leave it alone and go afk while working, it will go into sleep mode and freeze completely. I am at a loss as to what the problem is.

I wouldn't recommend having you computer sleep at night, as that still drains the battery. Is it possible you have it set to start at a certain time? did you change any advanced standby options? Does it start up from full shut downs?

It will not start up from a full shutdown and I double-checked the BIOS to make sure it wasn't set to automatically turn on. I also just turned off auto updates (set to 3 AM, perhaps this is the problem?) so I will see what happens tonight

Did you follow the best practices for http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 which are not at all like XP? Pay special attention to how drivers are handled because this is the first driver-complete OS.

In Power Options, under Advanced Power Options, under Sleep disable Allow Wake Timers. This can be a Scheduled Task starting set for that time.

Keep your laptop plugged into A/C power when at its normal station, set to sleep at 30 and hibernate at 45-60 with Hybrid Sleep.

If this doesn't help update your Display driver.

Mine does this too, except I haven't changed my operating system. All devices are unchecked in Device manager and the system log says wake source unknown. Really annoying. Any other suggestions? Virus?

You should make a new thread in the future don't bump multiple old ones.

Open a CMD Prompt and put

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

That will show you what is allowed to wake the machine at the moment, some of those devices are not in the Device Manager. Then you can disable the exact ones you don't want.

I don't know what bump means... but I followed your suggestion.
My computer answered NONE.

Any other hints?

Bumping moves an older thread up to the top of the list again. This thread is 5 years old.
