Solved What kind of monitor should i buy ? Dvi-d or hdmi?

Hello
I have recently bought a costum built gaming PC with specs shown below , once i recieved i found that it only has 2 DVI-d and 1 HDMI ports , while my monitor is VGA ... i surfed internet and knew that i either buy an active adapter converter or a new monitor ...
Active adapters converters are not availble in my city stores ...
So that leaves me with monitor choice only .... i only found 1 monitor with HDMI output ... and no monitor with dvi-d , so shall i buy it?
Is it good for graphics? Or will i lose some of the high graphics of my 1070 gtx gpu?
How about dell e2414h monitor? Its supposed to be a dvid one..

Hello and welcome Amina now depending on the budget it is always best to get a decent quality monitor and it matter not a jot if it has HDMI and DVI and VGA or whatever simply because if you are going to game with the machine I am assuming you are going to use a sound system or headphones.

Next you will want to consider size personally I find a 27" monitor a good size and unless you go to one of the really high definition monitors then 1920x1080 resolution is I think about at it's limits regarding pixel size.

Now HDMI carries both audio and graphics whereas DVI is only graphics. Audio with a monitor using HDMI connection is in my experience never that good unless you spend up real big and the I still think it isn't that good.

So what you need to think about is what form of monitor you are going to get as there are quite a few types of screen and you will find that the more advanced types will obviously be more expensive I have TN and IPS panel screens for my machines and to be honest I can see very little difference between them some rave on about viewing angles etc and refresh rates and there is a gaming type that is good for gaming but again quite expensive.

You need to research through Google to find what you need and afford because my best monitors and as I said nothing extra special were in the region of $400 to $450.

Just oen thing I will mention I am not a fan of touch screens as I think they are both unhygienic and unnecessary. But the choice is always yours of course.

Personally with a 2-1 ratio of DVI to HDMI ports I would look to use one of the DVI ports for my monitor, thus leaving the HDMI port for future use, most large screen TVs will support HDMI but few support DVI, and a large TV can be a useful output device especially if used for gaming with others.

Also although the DVI standard does not include Audio - a large number of nVidia graphics use a work around and spare pins on the connectors to implement audio, although a small desktop audio 2.1 system is fine for day to day use.

Due to the specialist nature of the hardware involved I would recommend that you try to use online sources to obtain exactly what you need but do understand that this may not be an easy option for you due to your stated location

Actually I agree with Nigel on this one as I am not really a fan of HDMI the connections always look a bit flimsy compared to DVI if for nothing else.

Just check what they do have though because the most expensive monitor I bought only had HDMI and VGA there was no DVI at all. As I think I mentioned I don't use the audio through the monitor unless you have some whizz bang de luxe one - I personally lie a separate sound card and DVI.

I couldnt find DVI-d so far
Unfortunately in our stores there are only 24" monitors maximum with resolution of 1920×1080
Now the one i found which is HDMI IS SAMSUNG CF390 ... i looked at its specs , its panel type is VA..
So what does this mean? Because i heard that TN is what i should have ..
I am sorry for my lack of knowledge but i am not that much good in hardwares ...

Till now i couldnt find a dvid monitor unfortunately ...
And i wonder about the audio , i use headphones and i think as usual there will be ports for them in the gpu right?
So i am not choosing hdmi for audio ...

I looked at the box of my gtx 1070 and found that it has all the following ports illustrated
2 dvid
2hdmi ( 1 for lcd & 1 for VR)
2 display port compatible ports ( is that digital only or can it transfer analog too) i mean can i put an adapter to my vga through this? If i find one ofcourse
