Syncing names of files in different folder (structures)

Hi guys!

I'm looking for a tool/mechansim to sync the names of files.

I got some pictures in folder A
and
I got same pictures in folder B and some of its sub-folders.
than I renamed some of the images in folder B and its sub-folders.
now I want to rename the same images in folder A like they are renamed in B. like syncing the names from B to A.

Is it clear what I want?
Is there a tool for doing this?

Simple enough use built in robocopy and use mirror option you can get a GUI for robocopy if you can't use cmd line

But I only want to sync the names of the images ... not the files it selfs ...
the structure should not be the same ...

Before:
folder A:
/A/Image1
/A/Image2
folder B:
/B/123/picture1
/B/abc/picture2

After
folder A:
/A/picture1
/A/picture2
folder B:
/B/123/picture1
/B/abc/picture2

If I can make a suggestion, Simply process each image and refrain from deleting the older image versions.

To illustrate:
produce /A/Image1 and process /B/123/image1
then make copy of /A/image1 and call it /A/image2.
Do what editing you need in /A/image2 and process /B/abc/image2.

In this way, /B/123/image1 always refers to /A/Image1
and /B/abc/image2 always refers to /A/image2

No. There are 1000 pictures, doing something manually would be crazy.
Thats why I want to have a tool for it.

Hi Paul,

Then you would want something like version control software for your pictures.

The only alternative that I can think of is to check out what workflow features are available in your picture editor. Some editors allow the user to make virtual copies of an original file - You might find that a good compromise solution.

Either way, you could find yourself adopting two workflows, one to maintain your present 1000 pictures, and another workflow to update any new images that you produce.

hmmm why version control should help in any way?
And what does my picture editor has to do with this?
Seems I did not explain it very well ... sorry for that.

1) I have 1000 pictures in folder A, not only in the root folder but also in some sub-folders.
2) I have some of these pictures copied to folder B.
3) The name of some of the pictures in folder A and its sub-folder are changed.
Now I want to have the corresponding pictures in folder B change their names like the pictures in A.

Step 1-3 is done. and are not object to change/or influence.

Actually the software would have to take each picture in B scan for a file with same content (with checksum) in folder A -> if found rename picture in folder B.

That sounds more like a file comparison utility. File comparison compares files in different directories and reports duplicate entries. Most programs would offer to delete duplicate entries once found, which you are not looking for - some programs might have an automatic file renaming feature.

This article Comparison_of_file_comparison_tools from wikipedia might just give you a tool you want. I cant recommend any as I dont use them.
