Does anyone know of any good duplicate image finder software?

I have "Duplicate Photo Finder" installed but it is difficult to use (or I'm not using it correctly).
It seems to only compare images inside the same folder.
It is not very accurate (e.g. it will claim that an image with text is identical to the same image without text).

Specifically I want a program that allows you to:

  • Choose 2 folders
  • Compare the contents
  • Highlight/list the duplicates

I currently have that program installed.

I guess I could just copy all of the images into one folder and then use that to find the duplicates.

My preference would be to find a program that allow me to select two folders and then checks those for duplicates.

That's using your noggin! Before the copy, if desired, you could batch-rename all the pics in one of the folders with a unique prefix/suffix in case you wanted to maintain them in their unique folder after the operation, and then restore/rename back all as before.

I actually tried using it that way but it was very painful.
The new and old images were mixed in both columns.
It wasn't much better than manually doing it.

Both sets of images were backed up in zip files.

Years ago when I was using Ubuntu 10 it had a program that did image comparison.
I'll have to see what image comparison software I can get for Linux Mint.

Check out VisiPics on FossHub

Dear Lehnerus2000:

Check out VisiPics on FOSSHUB.

Note the above "FOSSHUB link" takes you directly to their home page. The "VisiPics link" takes you to the VisiPics page itself on FossHub.

An excerpt from the site:
VisiPics is a tiny, free application for Windows that will search for duplicate photos. You can find duplicate images using three different filters: (1) Strict (will return almost identical results - the image is the same or slightly different), (2) Basic and (3) Loose (with much more differences). Additionally, you can also use the "Auto-Select" feature which will mark images with smaller, uncompressed, lower resolution copies as duplicates.

Neat little program for Windows I think.
