It does not matter if I am sorting MP3 files by title, font files by title, or anything else by title, it always takes forever to sort my files by title. It can take up to five minutes in order for Windows to sort these files. No other 'sort by' takes this long. Everything else is almost instant. Name, date, size, etc are all instant. It is just sorting by title is what takes forever.

I Googled the problem but nothing came up. There seems to be no information on this issue whatsoever.

How many items are in the folder you are trying to sort? My music folders are organized by album, so there aren't that may items in each folder- they sort by Title very fast. But 'Title' is not really a filesystem entity like filename, date, etc. - it is metadata in the mp3 file itself. It may be that in a folder with a large number of files, it takes longer to extract this info into a working index in order to sort the display. This is just a guess.

If you sort a folder by Title, then sort it by, say date, then sort it by Title again, does it take just as long?

Yes. It takes just as long every time. Even a folder with just 20 fonts takes forever.

I can understand a folder containing a game soundtrack Mp3s with 407 files in it—but 20 font files?

I read I don't know how long ago that it is the metadata that slows it down and the fastest way to sort large folders is to sort by date.

If I get problems with search, I rebuild the search index, can I assume you are searching in an indexed location?
