Hi!

I wanted to run 16-bit Applications on my 32-bit Computer. Such as Windows 3.1 apps which I really need. I don't like Virtualization on Virtual OS. Please anyone can help me about this? Also the Windows 3.1 Applications.

  • I dont want Virtualiztion Programs - It damaged my PC since July 2017, It damaged my RAM and Drivers.
  • I dont want DOSBOX - Similar on what Happened on my PC.
  • XP Mode wont run in my PC, My PC just having 2GB of RAM. It would not run
  • Doesn't even work with Compability Mode, Windows 95 or 98, or XP. Doesn't even work!
  • Will not install Dual-boot for Windows XP!
Remember, Help me about this, also give me a link of Windows 3.1 Applications.
I use Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.

How about if you set up a third boot option -- with DOS 6.2. Then install Windows 3.1 in DOS. Or perhaps install Windows 98SE as the third boot option. This will give you USB functionality.

With 2 GB of RAM, things should run really well when you boot to DOS / Win 3.1 or to Win 98SE.

Since this is a Windows 7 forum, it would be more appropriate to ask this question in a Windows 8 forum.

I don't know about Win8, but the 32-bit version of Win7 has no trouble running Win 3.1 and even DOS programs. It's only the 64-bit version of Win7 that will not run 16-bit code. Since the OP's system specs indicate he's dual-booting Win7x32 with Win8, the simplest approach might be to just run his 16-bit applications under Win7.

Installing DOS 6.2 on a modern PC would be problematic. On a laptop, even more so.
Windows 98 on a modern PC is at best difficult. There would be a variety of problems, not the least of which would be the lack of drivers. This being a laptop compounds the problems.

These are no practical options.

If the applications will not run natively on Windows 8.1 then a virtual machine is the way to go. I know VirtualBox will run with 2 GB RAM, having done so with less.

Many 16 bit applications will run on 32 bit Windows 7 but others will not.

Windows 7, as with all of the NT platform, will only run 16 bit applications that are well behaved. Unfortunately, many 16 bit applications are not well behaved and would compromise stability if they were allowed to run. If you have these applications they will not run outside a virtual environment. There are no compatibility settings that will allow them to run.

RAM won't get damaged by Virtual Box. Drivers might possibly get damaged, but not likely.

What was it that caused you to conclude that your RAM and drivers got damaged by Virtual Box?

What was it that caused you to conclude that your RAM and drivers got damaged by Virtual Box?

My Computer is actually designed for 32-bit systems but the IT installed the 64-bit version, Now, The RAM is designed for 32-bit computer, So later on, I installed Windows NT 4.0 on it with its Guest Additions while NT 4.0 is on 64-bit system and now, I installed Minecraft Java Edition on my Main Computer (Which I need for Youtube) now, Windows NT 4.0 started to bluescreen my Main computer, and I played Minecraft, And I noticed that Graphics getting worse (It gets blurry and messy), And later on, Crashes so much, While again, I tried VirtualBox again, and worsly messed up drivers+RAM, and now, Everytime I boot is just bluescreen (after the "Starting Windows logo") until, I tried restore point, and later on, again, bluescreen. Until the computer won't boot (Wont even turn on the screen, just the Computer lights (like the Disk light blinks) Now, the IT removed the 1GB RAM (In the total of 3GB RAM), Then the problem got fixed, but drivers wont work correctly, now, the IT reinstalled my computer and worked fine and nice. Then I upgraded to Windows 8.1 due to proxy errors caused by a virus, and the problem fixed. Now, I'm trying to use virtualbot but it doesn't work because I don't have a Graphics card and accelerator, Because the removal of the 1GB RAM Support the Graphics accelerator, and now, I don't have any graphics accelerator that have supported to run VirtualBox, I need more RAM, But my computer is old and my Dad will never buy me a new ones.

Error codes from RAM Damage:
0xc0000021a (System sub-system error and user-subsystem error)
0xc00000005 (Hardware error)

Have you overclocked your CPU? That, or maybe dust or an electrical problem, might have damaged your RAM. But Virtual Box didn't damage it.

Have other electrical devices ever been damaged at your location? If so, that might indicate electrical problems.

If your computer is full of dust, then the RAM might have overheated and gotten damaged.

Nope, Its not overheated. The RAM is deisgned for 32-bit systems but the IT installed an 64-bit system. Also the applications with the main culprit which is VirtualBox. It just started with "SYSTEM_SETTING_CHANGE" Bluescreen and "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL". It is not cause by dust. The IT Said that the RAM Damaged due to Incompatible 64-Bit systems causing ram to damage. Now, I dont have graphics card anymore. It will not run Virtualbox.

The tech put the wrong kind of RAM in your machine, and admitted it, yet he told you that it was damaged due to "incompatible 64-bit systems causing ram to damage"? The truth is, it was damaged because it was the wrong kind of RAM for your computer.

Perhaps he had some RAM available, and he wanted to sell it, so he sold it to you, even though it was not the correct type for your computer. Maybe he pulled it out of another computer and put it into your computer. And who knows what kind of static damage that RAM might have, due to someone at some point touching the gold tabs on it without first grounding their hands on some metal (to get the static electricity out of their hands)? Static damage might not show up for weeks or months; then at some point the RAM fails.

I suggest you never go to that shop again for any kind of computer purchase or repair.

The only reason I posted was because I thought you wanted information. I've been doing this type of work for a very long time, and I've seen a lot of things along the way. So I have a lot of knowledge in this field.

Perhaps you were banned on EightForums because you are rude to people who sincerely try to help you? A simple "Thank you for your help, but I'm moving on" would be a lot better than "STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS POST".

But sorry about that, I can't control it. I have ADHD. Plus I just posted a problem in eightforums and I did'nt reply anyone. I'm just waiting for help (No replies and quote in that time), And I was banned as requested.

The only way to get a 16bit application to run is to use a 16 bit or 32 bit version of windows, or you could use a virtualized windows 32 bit OS

64 Bit operating systems cannot run 16 bit by design, 32 bit is the minimum

Of course you would need to install a clean install of 32Bit Windows 8.1, if you can find one now that microsoft have stopped supplying it Your existing legal Key for a 64bit 8.1 should work, but of course your system would be limited to 4GB of ram and other restrictions
