Can't Clone, Carry Over Settings to New Install?

Outside of cloning/imaging how can Windows settings be migrated between separate installs? Documents I am not concerned with, but how about all of the customizations I've made? Can I just copy my registry over? How can I go about retaining as much from one install to another?

Don't understand clone not possible, but whatever! Your systems specs are, for all intensive purposes, void.
Just a thought.
How about creating a system image, then restore it to new drive. I've done this more than once using AOMEI backupper, although I'm pretty sure most any reputable backup program will do the same. Not a clone, but essentially the same.

What are exactly all those "settings", "customizations", "registry tweaks" and the like you are talking about? Specify as detailed as possible what you're trying to do.

For starters, all registry changed can be scripted out to a .reg file an imported into a new system. Anything else can be copied in similar ways, only if you know what do you want to copy.

Hi, not sure what you mean as I had simply posted a very simple question at this point:

Is anyone aware of how one can try to replicate registry tweaks between two same win7 versions? Anything to watch out for, different methods, etc?

Thank you. As mentioned, the OS versions will be the same. The system hardware, however, will be different, as will be the folder structure and perhaps some installed programs. Do such differences present a risk of borking anything? I would for sure do a backup image of the new machine before attempting, but I just want to know any possible pitfalls first.

Most likely entire registry copy/transfer will bork as you put it.

Never tried it myself, backup your test system, full image and full registry first.

Cool feature. I haven't made use of bookmarking (didn't know it existed, and would have been useful), so I will most likely be using a 3rd party registry tool to access a list of modified dates, to try to track the changes I have made.
