Router will not connect because it is looking for internet

Hi all,

I am trying to set up a new router (Asus AC3100). It is used by a live band for iPads and iPhones to wirelessly connect to a digital mixing console which is connected by wire to the router.

I have the router set up with ID and password and my iPad finds it and tries to connect but it just spins endlessly and it says "no internet connection", and it won't complete the connection because of that.

How do I tell the router that I am not using it for internet? I tried disabling WAN but that didn't make a difference.

I think that as you are getting the "error" on the Apple Devices It may well be that these devices are the source of the "error" Routers are after all basic devices working as a switch between connected devices and then performing the translation services required to connect to an external network in safety

I have used Android devices to connect to various routers and they will all inform the user that there is no internet connection but will allow you to log in to the router and set the internet up, or share data with other connected devices.

It may be that there is a simple toggle somewhere in the IOS that allows you to stop or at least "Tone Down" the messages

I have read through the router manual and it confirms that what you have done is correct and should work, you may want to check that there are no settings in the Dual WAN failsafe options that could try to connect to a secondary route in the event of WAN failure - the defaults for this should be off but you never know

Well, I originally wondered about that, but the current router we are using, which I set up myself in the same way, as well as the previous one, did not have this problem, and there was no configuring to do on the iPad to get it to work. Puzzling....

Puzzling indeed, there should be no issue with the setup you have

Keep the thread open as I have to admit that I am not an Apple or Asus Router User (I use their devices but not as yet a router), and there could be someone that can suggest something more specific

If I were to get "no internet" connection error on my mobile phone's Wi-Fi, then it is because of a typing error when I input the router's password. Is there a reset network settings checkbox somewhere on the iPad, so you can start over again?

Is your router using at least WPA

If it is a Iphone with the the newest OS installed I am wondering if they disabled connecting to a network using WEP or Open WiFi.

I use an old Android phone and I'm fairly certain that they do not restrict what security you use but I think I have read recently that there is at least one Google made device that got rid of the code that allows you to connect using old and broken WiFi wep or security setting.

ID and password are definitely correct. I have double and triple checked this.

It says "WPA2-Personal" for authentication.

I did also try connecting from an old iPad with iOS 9.3.5 and the same thing happens.

Something similar even happened on my PC with an error message about limited connectivity.

The main screen in the control panel also says that "the network cable is unplugged" under internet status.
