I did a search but don't see anything similar. I suspect will need to use a password reset program?

Thanks, Nasty

Hi Nasty7,

The above doesn't really give us a lot to go on. It sounds more like a statement than a question!
I assume that you are saying when you tried to logon today, it asked you for a password, when previously it didn't?

I hope this helps!

Hi Nasty7,

O-boy, yes that's what I mean Paul, I was not being clear at all sorry.

No problem.

Did you do any Windows Updates, Software Updates, or Driver Updates yesterday that could have caused this?
Is there any reason you can think of why this would/might happen?
Does anyone else have access to your computer that could have done this as a joke?

I hope this helps!

Paul, I should have also pointed out that this is my client's pc. Well, a friend of mines client. I'm filling in for a friend that is stuck in NC with all the flooding etc. So my notes are not good, and the customer is not sure what is going on. It was supposed to have been a Windows 10 machine, from Windows 7 but I see no remainder of that. No Windows.old, no extra partitions etc.

I was able to get in, so all is good on that. Gotta go for now, I'll report back.

Sorry, but I am still a bit confused!

Is the OS Windows 10 or Windows 7?
I assume that you mean Windows 10 was originally installed, and it has now been re-installed with Windows 7?
You say that you have now been able to access the computer, so what exactly is the issue you are having now?

I hope this helps!

It came with Windows 7 and supposedly it was upgraded to 10 at some point, at least that's what my partners notes say. I thought at first she somehow used the Recovery Partition and restored to Factory, but this is not the case.

Most the customers apps and such are still there, and Windows 7 has been updating for at least quite a while, sorry forget how long. So don't know how Windows 10 could have been on it at all, but she is also under the impression that it was?

Another thing is, she cannot get into her accounts, and has not been able to for some time now. This makes me think the computer was restored somehow back to Windows 7 with all her old settings, passwords etc. But, there are no passwords being stored in any browsers, but I suspected there would be normally as most of our clients are older and will just click yes to store them.

The only thing I can imagine is she Upgraded to 10, and then was able to somehow use the Windows.old Folder containing windows 7 to revert back before the thirty days were up. Unfortunately I had all my notes on a USB that was damaged, and had no backups. I could flip through my written notes but that may take a long time to find LOL.

Also, the HDD is overheating, so will need to reinstall everything on a new drive anyhow. The system runs perfectly, and actually very good! so thinking I may Image it to a new HDD.

I will need to make sure there are no Windows 10 Upgrade Updates are on the thing first, will need to look that up as I forget how to know this.

Either way I'm good now, thanks for all your replies. Very weird situation really, at least to me.

Cloning the disk would be a better option in this case.

Either way I'm good now, thanks for all your replies.

You are very welcome, I am glad it is resolved and happy computing!

Still don't know why I saw this at login? "Dell User" and was locked out?

Don't seem like an infection?

The only other thing I know is the owner could not log into her accounts and I see no passwords in chrome, which is unusual for our customers.

Also, had to turn off the Magnifying Glass. It kept coming up and causing problems.

I did a full Dell Diagnostics also, HDD and all are good!
