Repair Install

Neither CMD nor the DOS command box have "Run as admin" in the context menu.

There is something wrong. Instead of wasting weeks trying to fix a broken system, I suggest you clean install onto a new partition.

I don't know what the mobo is, but it's not relevant to this problem.

You ask for help, then refuse to answer questions. The model of the machine may help determine if you have an oem preinstall bios, which is relevant if you come to reinstall.

I don't suppose you have a backup image, or shadow copies from a time before you started having problems?

It took more than a month to set it up initially. Thanks, I'll consider it.

I didn't refuse to name the mobo. I'm exploring how to find it.

No, it would have to be about a year old. It was just suggested to me that the ISO might have a corruption, or I should try reinstalling in safe mode. Do you have a favorite place to get an ISO or a zip file?

Hi RoWin7,

I didn't refuse to name the mobo. I'm exploring how to find it.

You could use Speccy [FREE] to find the relevant information: Speccy

I hope this helps!

I've run both chkdsk and sfc/ scannow. They found nothing unusual.

However, I used the suggestion I posted yesterday, closing all background programs.
windows 7 ultimate upgrade - Microsoft Community

Ran setup again, and it told me there are 2 corrupt files in the ISO. So that's the problem. Does anyone have a favorite place for an ISO? It's Win 7 Ult. x64

You can download the latest and last Windows [Final] > Windows 7 SP1 [build 7601] > Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 ISO [build 6.1.7601 - July 2009] file from TechBench [make sure you select the correct language and bit type].

If you need any further help/information, like how to burn the ISO to DVD or USB then please let us know!

I hope this helps!

I used to date a guy named Oobe. His nickname was Oo. His sister was named Mobo, but her nickname was Mob. ;-)

Dism++'s documentation is in Chinese, literally, but I found the list of updates already installed, mostly on the machine's birthday in 2016. How will it show me the rest and which ones to avoid?

You need to click the Scan button so it will tell you anything you still need. It downloads the MS database and checks it against your current installation.

OK, great!! And thanks to my other helpers.
(Stupid MS can't detect that I don't have Office. OpenOffice is LMFAO)

This is for anyone referencing this thread in the future:
Using the good ISO, it's not time-consuming at all. All my old tweaks, settings and preferences and Classic Shell were saved, even my Prod Key. Except for the updates, it took about 20 minutes last night.

Original computer builder just sent me a list of updates to avoid.
I'm posting it for posterity, but it goes only to my acquiring the machine 10/2016:
