As to this update madness you see all over the Internet. There are ways of preventing that by forging your user agent through an add-on in your browser. I only mention this because you are happy with what you already have. This works most of the time, but not all the time as websites pull other signatures from your browser and then know you are using an old browser. Specifically through java script. There's even an add-on for that, but it's coded in the XUL code and Mozilla in their infinite wisdom got rid of add-ons coded in XUL. Now add-ons are coded in the coding of Webextensions. Same now for the email client Thunderbird.
Oh, what the hell is a user agent you may ask. It's a string that tells websites what browser you are using. It looks like this:

Even says what operating system you use. In this case Windows NT 6.1 is in fact Windows 7.
An alternative browser you may be interested in that keeps the old Firefox look (GUI) and allows the use of XUL-based add-ons is Palemoon. I use it as my primary browser. But since stupid websites discriminate with your user agent, the website may not function like it should or if at all if you are using Pale Moon. For the most part I haven't had too much trouble. Especially since I forge my user agent to look like I'm using Firefox. But the one thing that pisses me off is Google's Recaptcha. If I'm using Pale Moon and solve a puzzle to log in or register with some website, etc, I have to solve around 6 damn puzzles. Now if I use Firefox or Chrome, BAM! solve one or two puzzles at max and you're in. That's what I call browser discrimination and it's BULLCRAP!
Anyway, the big companies Google, Microsoft, et al have a major grip on what YOU the user on YOUR PC (Personal Computer) can use. And if you use something nonstandard they won't play nice. Same with CPUs and Windows 7. Can't use a Coffee Lake CPU with Windows 7 and I find that preposterous. Yeah... Coffee Lake is what they call the 8th and 9th generation Intel CPU. Next thing you know they'll partner with Tenbucks (Starbucks) and have a Mocha frappuccino macchiato latte CPU or some crap. LMAO! Just like how they have these names for Android versions. Cotton Candy, Lollipop, Tootsie roll, etc.
Anyway... stupid world we live in I think and I'm only 38. I can't wait to see 2050. Good grief. I'll be 70 then. Wouldn't mind seeing tricentennial, but I'll be 96 if I make it, at a retirement home and probably so out of it I wouldn't care about the 4th of July at that point.
Anyway... using an updated browser is probably in your best interest in terms of the security holes each update fixes. For me, I use Pale Moon to maintain that original Firefox look and its security holes are fixed as well. Including CVE possibilities that aren't known security holes in the wild. This, contrary to some asine websites that are telling you that you shouldn't use Pale Mon and use Firefox instead. I wonder how much they got paid for that? Either that or they're dumb as all hell.
