Hey all!

I am having a very bad time trying to install .NET 4.7.2.

Here is the scenario: I have Win 7 64 SP1 on my machine (installed first the OS and then SP1) with the .Net 4.7.2 update on it no problem.

Now I am setting up a virtual machine with another instance of Win 7 (long story) using VMWare 8. I set the new virtual machine up but it won't install the .NET 4.7.2 update no matter what.

I already downloaded three different packages (even the developer one) and I always get an error screen with the following message:

.NET Framework 4.7.1 has not been installed because:
A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.
The error screen provide some links. One for the log file that gives me this:

There is also a couple other links to external pages that doesn't help in nothing.

What doesn't make sense to me is that I used the same Windows install package and it did update .NET OK on my machine regular install but did not on virtual machine.

Any clue?

Seems pretty much like the known issue posted here:
Access Denied

(while it says it's for 4.6, it also applies to latter versions).

In short, either connect the VM to internet, at least for the duration of the installation, or download the required certificate manually and install it. Details on how to do so are specified in the link.

Thank you Alejandro!

Unfortunately it didn't work (at least not for 4.7). Actually I DO have an Internet connection from within VM (I downloaded the install packages using it). I think it's something else. For some mysterious reason my connection is good enough to browse web and download stuff but not good enough for MS check the validity of the packages. Typical of Microsoft (things only work by luck).

I also tried to download and install the certificate but the problem persists.

I managed to install .NET 4.6.1 though. I am crossing fingers that it has the enough resources to run what I need. Other than that I will just give up and will use my regular OS to do what I need.

It's bummer because something happened when I installed the stuff on my OS (.NET, VS, SQLServer Express, IIS express, etc) and that somewhat screwed my browser in a way that it keep crashing every now and then. That's why I wanted a VM then I could use it only for VS and leave my main OS alone. Damn, you never can have everything you need!

It failed also installing Visual Studio. I think that it might be a common problem with virtual machines. I am officially giving up.

No Windows version is weird, but the MSI version has no relationship to the Windows version (directly, at least), so it doesn't have to be 6.1 (Win7). BTW, Vista is 6.0, XP 5.1 or 5.2, and Win2000 is 5.0.

It seems KB2813430 update SOLVES it! I have tested it on VMWare Workstation, Win7 x64, NetFramework 4.8. Download here Microsoft Update Catalog
