Granted this is an old scanner, and it works great; but the software that came with it does not allow me to select any destination folder.

Can anyone recommend some freeware that should work with this scanner that allows the user to select any folder as the destination, and also include PDF and JPG save as types?

Thanks for any input.

Hi br4,

Have you checked the Canon website to see if there are any software updates?

Yes, I have the latest (only) version of the software. I think I also called Canon and was told they couldn't provide any software.

A couple of possible solutions for you to consider-

Since it scans to Photo Studio, can't you just do a file\save as from there?

Also, there is an e-mail button on the scanner which allows one to attach the scanned image to a new e-mail. Could you do that and e-mail to yourself; open the attachment and then do a copy/paste to the folder of choice?

I realize these are round-about ways to do something that should normally be very simple. Just throwing them out there as possibilities.

Thanks for your replies.

To wither 2:

I have no idea what you mean by 'it scans to Photo Studio'. I don't think the CanoScan software does that, whatever Photo Studio is.

The Mail button has the same 'save scanned image to...' option as the Save of Scan buttons, with the same limitations on where the scan can be saved.

I've tested the Not Another PDF Scanner 2 software and it seems to be a good substitution.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

In trying to help, the best I can do is look at the manuals, when I don't have the device mentioned. The user guide I linked doesn't mention alternatives. In the second link you provided, I wonder what would have happened if the setup was run in XP compatibility mode.

Mine is over 15 years old, and I think I used it in Win98. Getting it to run in Win 7 might be a matter of luck. Glad you got it to work, br4. :-) And I just D/L VueScan in case my 3-in-one dies.

You really only need to install the TWAIN driver from the canon site: Canon U.S.A., Inc. | CanoScan LiDE 25

Once you have the TWAIN driver installed, you can scan from many TWAIN compatible applications. For instance, older versions of MS Word supported scanning. One application I know of off the top of my head you can use is IrfanView - Official Homepage - One of the Most Popular Viewers Worldwide

Goto File->"Select scan/TWAIN source" to select which TWAIN source to use (your scanner), then Goto File->Acquire to actually do the scanning. A dialog will popup allowing you to select options such as the destination folder for the scan.

Thanks for all your replies. As I noted, NAPS2 is looking good, so I'll probably stay with it. I hadn't realized that IrfanView did scanning, even though I've been using it for viewing and editing pictures for a long time.
