W7 Home Premium running real slow locking up

3 days ago, I lost power on laptop. SAGER NP5160, 8gb Ram, i7 cpu Battery wont hold charge, so its always plugged in.
After this happened, rebooted and it went througj 2 Chcdsk R operations.
Ran fine for a day , but now its slow as hell. Not responding, click on programs, take several minutes before saying, Not Responding.
Task manager shows svchost 193000kb, and cpu 0 to 3% max. 25% to 30% ram being used. Hard drive not really on full, as its going on n and.
Is there a program that I can use that tells me what is causing thiz massive lag?

Welcome to the Forum.

If Battery isn't holding charge, you should buy a new one or remove it from the Laptop and run it only on the Power supply.

Did you allow check disk to scan the disk after the power failure?

Open a CMD window as admin and type:
chkdsk C: /f
It will say the disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next boot = Yes
Reboot and let it scan the disk

That is a problem with laptops people leave them plugged in on charge all the time. A battery needs to discharged and charged else it won't last as long.

I had a problem with my laptop not charging even though the LED was lit on the charger and there was voltage at the lead. The Windows message on the task bar said not charging and it shut my laptop down.

I bought a new charger plugged it in and started the laptop up and it still said it wasn't charging. I unplugged the cable and plugged it back in and it was charging. Even though all connections were clean.

When the battery gets low it will show a message in the task bar consider replacing the battery.

Use a multimeter to check the voltage at the lead mine is 19v.

Well, I fixed it via chdsk /r. It took 4 hrs.

The battery isnt made anymore. I just bought a parts laptop amd ita battery was aftermarket, chinese, lower wattage.
But I bought this 8 years ago. I normally charged it, unpluggeg it, but it eventually died.
So, nows its working.
Strange how the first chkfsk r did not work.

Did you run chkdsk C: /r or chkdsk C: /f ?

If chkdsk C: /f took hours isn't a good signal.

If your disk is dying, every task you do on the disk will short your chances to save your data.

That said, open event viewer (%windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s)
then Windows Logs (2nd choice on left) -> Application (1st sub-choice)
On the Right, under Actions > Applications - Find - type Wininit
It will stop on the last check disk log. Double click and it will open another window. Hit copy and then paste here.

Bad sectors increased from 20 to 72 KB in only 6 days.
Save your data on an external disk and replace the HDD ASAP. My recommendation is to do a clean install or a Factory recover on the new disk.
It's time for a SSD, specially on a Laptop.

Dang, welll that is not good. I appreciate the guidance and help. I will be buying a new laptop here soon..
Didnt want to right now due to B days, and Mothers day hitting me.
I may do one more chkdsk tonight, and see if there is anymore issues.
I havent done a back up in years, and all my programs are old and specific programs, like diagnosing my car etc that wont work on 10. So, I may do a back up, ssd drive, and then get another laptop for general surfing web, email etc.

You have a very good laptop (i7, 8G). And a SSD will make it so good that you wont desire a new one with win 10.

Don't do another check disk. It will stress the disk and things can get worst.
My suggestion is to boot from a Linux flash disk and copy all your data to an external disk, or, if you have a desktop, attach the HDD to it and copy all your data to another disk.

I went ahead and did it. I will be ordering a new HDD this weekend and either clone mine or Windows 10 and see what I can do about bringing the old programs into W10 compatibility.

I cloned old HDD drive to an WD Blue SSD 500gb drive. Works great, definitely faster. Fans are running more though, as temps are a little higher.
Usually 130's, now 150's F.
And it is using about 30% more RAM

Will do. I dont have time to reinstall all my stuff. Its a workhorse. So, now I have a drive that should last a while, and the old drive is there in case, just in case, I need it.
