IE Pushing Chrome (or just my IE)

Once in a while when I open IE, a pop-up appears in the upper-right corner of my display requesting to switch to and install Chrome. I assume IE is a Microsoft product. So, is MS & Google in bed with each other? Is it just my install or do others experience this?

Sounds more like a pop-ad. Is it always on the same page? Do you have pop-ups disabled?

hmmmm, I think you're on to something. I think it always happens when I open Google Images. No, pop-ups was not, but now is disabled. I'll report back after a few days.

I used to get that message, calling Chrome "a modern browser." But I don't use any Google products anymore, including their search engine. They're dangerous.

well, pop returned today, so enable pop-up blocker in IE options does not function. I am not surprised. Other IE stuff is useless as well. Preventing re-directs and new window openings don't work as well. However, IE is not alone with these.

So, what search engine and browser do you use?

Firefox 52.9ESR, when it still had the MenuBar. Search engines Duckduckgo and Startpage, which actually use Google results, but without recording your IP Address. Only Google product I use is Youtube, and I clean cookies and supercookies afterward.

If you move from IE, import all your Favorites (Bookmarks) from IE. But the new Firefox is quite different from the version I use. No menubar, but still a million Extensions.

I now use Firefox 67.0 after having used Chrome for long time.

As search engine I use Startpage since forever and I am very happy with that.


Got totally pissed when Google started to overwrite my manual settings for not updating automatically; I noticed it also loads files to overwrite any security level you might set up... It really is an anti privacy piece of tool, almost a virus.

Plus, their new interface from a few months back really lost me so I just erased it from all my machines.


Firefox can still use the menubar, is just an option now (right click in the tab area).
I use it with 2 extra extensions; adblock and bookmark manager and I am happy with it
