I am really scratching my head - I have had these sturdy little desktops before, installed them for a number of folks including here at my place [since moved out] but I cannot solve this one's graphics issues.
HD ID's
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_1497103C&REV_09
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_1497103C

The current driver version is showing 9.17.10.4229 Dated 5/26/15

New-to-me, latest/last bios, all other drivers now appear to be correct, but no matter which HP-provided driver I try, nor which "auto update" from the windows catalog, and one I tried from the Intel downloads catalog, they all end the same - I get primitive resolution selections, nothing modern, and a resource warning bang on the Device Manager, which may point to a secondary issue. Yet, the other PCI devices are installed with no bangs on them on Dev Mgr.

This hard drive DID have AMD device stuff on it previously. I removed the amd stack the easy way using their uninstall manager, but for full disclosure you should think of that...

two images showing the state of things.

thank you for your help. this forum has been great for a long time

Try showing hidden devices in device manager and look to see if anything strikes you as something that should not be there. There might be an AMD driver buried somewhere, perhaps in the System Devices category. Feel free to uninstall anything and everything suspicious, selecting "delete driver software" as well. You could also try running Uwe's Device Cleanup tool and the amd cleanup utility. Given the error message you are getting, I don't think a different intel graphics driver is what you need. Any drivers you remove/uninstall that are actually needed are easy enough to re-install later.

much appreciated. I'll give these a try. i was thinking of finding the amd uninstall utility to make sure.
I also need to check the BIOS/Setup to see if there is some weird reservation in there for a pci-anything.... I can't imagine. haven't seen that in decades

john you were on-track. I think most of the issue was with the AMD PCI Filter. Removed that [system froze awhile in its tracks], and after reboot, ran the current AMD Uninstall-Everything Utility, which seemed to be very thorough. Kudos to them.

Graphics is finally working well despite the lousy chip
Not sure about USB - windows update shows something more modern for it but it bails while trying to install
But see no issues with devices
Need the best SATA driver I can find, about which I posted a few minutes ago.

otherwise pretty clean
thank you
