[1] Did you use an installation DVD or USB to re-install?
[2] Where abouts in the installation process did you get the black screen with flashing dash?

Hi millturn,

[1] When you say repair disk, do you mean a disk that you created before making a system image?
If so, you can't perform a clean install from it, you can only restore the system image with it.

[2] Are you trying to perform a clean install or a repair install?

Hello,

you can set the boot to cd in the asrock uefi settings:

On Startup press F2 to enter the BIOS.
From the main screen, select the Boot Tab.
Check to see if Fast Boot is disabled - if it is Enabled, then you wont be able to Boot from USB.
Under Boot Option Priorities (or similar wording), select your chosen Boot device.
Then Select Exit and Save the changes, to Restart the computer.

What do you mean updated Win 7?
Was this with WU's [Windows Updates] or by some other means [other software or hardware]?

lets start over, if i use my install disc, will it boot the pc or will it do an install and loose all my information on my computer

OK, so you have the original installation disk!
If you boot into the installation disk you can run a Startup Repair.

Startup Repair Process

Startup Repair will try to repair computers that are un-bootable because of the following reasons:
  • Registry corruption.
  • Missing or damaged system and driver files.
  • Disk metadata corruption (MBR, partition table, and boot sector).
  • File system metadata corruption.
  • Installation of problematic or incompatible drivers.
  • Installation of incompatible Windows service packs and patches.
  • Corrupt boot configuration data.
  • Bad memory and hard disk hardware (detection only).
Startup Repair will not repair un-bootable systems caused by the following issues:
  • Malfunctioning firmware and other hardware components.
  • Problems with clean Windows installations or Windows upgrades (for example, from Windows XP to Windows Vista).
  • Windows logon errors.
  • Viruses and malicious software.
After Startup Repair has run, a text log with diagnostic information and repair results is generated. This log file is located here => C:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt.

Did this help? => Help with UEFI setup utility boot screen.

I hope this helps!

There is no need to go to a repair shop!

[1] What update?

You don't answer any of my questions! See my posts 2, 4, 8, 10.

[2] Did this help? => Help with UEFI setup utility boot screen.
[3] Are you now able to boot into the installation disk?

Hello,

lets start over, if i use my install disc, will it boot the pc or will it do an install and loose all my information on my computer

The Install Disk wont do either until you make a selection. The selection of either choice is on the same screen. If you make the right selection, then the DVD will boot into WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment). Once in Win RE, you will be presented with the System Recovery Options. One of the System Recovery Options is Startup Repair.

Here is the procedure to do a System Repair from the Installation DVD:
Insert DVD into DVD tray;
Set DVD as FIRST BOOT DEVICE;
Restart Computer. Computer will then boot to DVD;

Once the computer has loaded the DVD, choose your language, time and keyboard;
Click Next. This will take you to a screen labelled Install Windows;
IGNORE the button to Install now (situated in middle of screen);
Choose Repair your computer option (situated at bottom-left of screen);
Finally, choose Startup Repair from System Recovery Options menu.

During a System Repair, the computer may reboot several times before the operation is fully complete.
